Hi Guys,
I'm going out for dinner tonight for a friends birthday. We're going to a mexican with what looks to have a very tasty menu - it's also the kind of menu that is putting fear into me! Most of the meals probably have enough calories to do me three days!!
So I love fish and also chili and was thinking maybe tiger prawn fajitas (going easy on the guac/soured cream etc) or chili in a baked potato or the scampi wrap but I've no idea what the calorie count would be for any of them! Can anyone help me guesstimate?
The menu is at http://www.chiquito.co.uk/pdf/2138.002_BELFAST_Main_Menu_CFO.pdf and any help or suggestions of how to limit calorie intake would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Ooh Chiquitos!! Yummy...I haven't been for ages! God, all these places you miss when you're trying to be good! But a birthday celebration certainly sounds like a good excuse!!
I can't really be that much help - it's so hard to be accurate with restaurants, I hate it when they don't provide their nutritional data!!! It would be a lot easier to work out after your meal, when you know exactly what you consumed - that way you can pick things already in the database that are the closest match (and I'd always over estimate a little, as restaurants can be shocking with their hidden calories!)
If it's any help at all as a rough guide....(it is different, so not sure it would be) I made homemade chicken fajita's for dinner on Saturday and painstakingly entered every little thing in - so I know that my meal was 752 calories. This was three flour tortillas (big ones, yes very greedy, I should have had two but I did do a huge workout that day!), a chicken breast (which prawns may even be less, amazingly good for you!), a whole pepper (1/2 red, 1/2 green), a whole small onion, fajhita seasoning, x2 tablespoons of homemade guacomole, x2 tablespoons old el paso salsa, x2 tablespoons low fat sour cream, 40g jalepinos (love them!). Of course, as it was cooked at home, I used the "one Cal" spray to cook rather than heaps of oil/fat, but the tortilla wraps at Chiquitos are much smaller and my tortilla wraps were 136 calories each, so you'll save some there...
Sorry I can't help much...It's hard!! I'm also going to be eating out the next few days, we just have to guesstimate the best we can and try to make up for it with exercise!! It's just one night though, try not to get bogged down with your diet...just enjoy yourself!0 -
Thank you! I made fajitas myself last night and they worked out almost the same as yous 775 for two huuuuuge wraps. YUM! Great advice as always and to be honest I know it;s just common sense but sometimes its nice to hear other peoples opinions

Heya!
I went to Chiquito's last Friday! Most of the stuff on their menu isn't THAT healthy but I'd say the healthiest thing you could get is the fajitas or fish something or other. I know you may not want fajitas after having them last night...alternatively the vegetarian chilli looks good :-) and being veggie packed full of pulses instead of fat laden mince meat! I love chilli but I only have it if I make it myself as I buy the very small packs of extra lean mince steak and I'm sure that's not what they use there!
Enjoy! xx0 -

Wow that menu is *so* different from an American Mexican restaurant!
What I eat here is called Camarones a la Diabla. I eat 1/3 of a serving at a time, and without the tortilla or if I add beans, it's 200ish calories for the portion. It translates to shrimp of the devil, so clearly it's hot, cooked in a hot sauce with green, orange and red bell peppers and onions. The heat helps me eat only a little, but still feel very satisfied. And I try to only eat one tortilla per sitting. So that brings me to 300ish calories. Add in the chips and salsa (a staple in my mind) ... which is mostly salsa in our family ... and I've added another 200ish calories.
I would steer you away from fajitas because they've got so many calories in all the toppings (tortillas, sour cream, guac, cheese, etc.) and to the section right above the fajitas. I would pick the Pollo Del Fuego or the Tequila Red Snapper. The rice is probably easier to pass up than the tortillas (if you're anything like me).
Hope that helps ...0 -
