P90X or Insanity - Advice Needed!

Hey everyone So I'm finally at the point where I want to give one of these programs a try and actually complete one! It's been a constant mess for me lately, starting back at school, working late, going out of town, etc.. But I need advice. First, let me give you some background info! I'm about 155 pounds, I want to lose about 30 pounds to put me back at 125 pounds. I have done Turbo Fire workouts in the past and I love them, but I don't feel like it's enough of a workout. I tried about 3-4 weeks of Insanity and I LOVED it! Although I felt like I was dying at some points lol I think I got discouraged with Insanity because I only lost about 3 pounds in that time frame.. I guess I was just expecting more and being impatient! I've never tried P90X but I do have it. So my question is- which program will help me lose that 30 pounds and get in shape? What are your opinions or experiences with these programs? Any success stories? Feel free to share any advice on these two programs! Thanks

No advice, sorry, but interested in responses. I was sorta sucked in by the Insanity infomercial last night, but it intimidates me, so looking to see if its worth it, or I should try something else.0

I have completed both...and I was discouraged by not losing that much on the scale...however I lost inches, and that is most important. I recommend doing your measurements before starting the program...and taking before pictures. This is where you will see the results. Unless you follow the food plans that are designed for these programs, I don't feel your scale weight will reflect a huge loss.
I went from a size 14 to a size 10/12 doing p90x and didn't follow the diet plan, and only lost 7lbs. Most days watched what I ate
Insanity, I went from a size 10 to a size 6/8, did not follow diet plan, only lost 8lbs. Most days watched what I ate.0 -
Tomorrow I am finishing week 4 of Insanity and I have only lost about 6 pounds. HOWEVER, I have dropped a shirt size and 2 pants sizes!! The only measurement I'm absolute on is in the first 2 weeks I lost 4 inches from my chest. It's coming off slower in other places but it is coming off. From what I have heard from others the size doesn't really start melting away until the last 4 weeks with this program. Like another poster I am not following the meal plan either but I do watch what I eat.
For you or anyone who thinks or wants to do Insanity my advice is to put the scale away and keep the tape handy!!! The scale is not a good reflection in this program!0 -
P90X
Trains teh whole body better.
However, it takes more time commitment and more tools.
They are both great. I alternate them.
Good luck.0 -
Thanks for all the responses this far and sharing your stories!!

I did insanity and I loved it! I lost 12lbs (but i was super inactive before starting- literally jumped into the program from level 0 haha) I only got to week 6 though- then got the flu. It made a HUGE difference in inches though. I looked like i had lost like 25lbs.
I'm doing an Insanity/ P90X hybrid now, and I love it even more. It gives so much more variety to my workout. It switches up every week to every 2 weeks and it amazing. The difference in weight loss is slower, but I'm gaining so much more muscle! I feel so much stronger and more empowered! Highly suggest it if you have both available to you!

Both are awesome, but I went with Insanity because there is no equipment needed. On either program though you should look less at the number on the scale and more on your measurements. That is where you will see the biggest change. I just started the 6th week of Insanity. So far I have lost 10lbs and 5" from my waist. You have to push your hardest though. They don't call it INSANITY for nothing.0

I have completed insanity and am currently doing p90x. The both are very different. Insanity is cardio based, and p90x is weight training. I lost more "weight" doing insanity. But im loosing more inches doing p90x. If you love cardio and want to shed maybe 10-20 lbs, do insanity. If you want to get lean and shed inches/fat quicker, do p90x.0

Thanks for mentioning this! It's exactly what I've been looking for. Off to hunt down the schedule.0 -
I haven't done P90X but I completed Insanity earlier this month. They are both very good, challenging programs. I would like to do P90X some day but honestly I choose Insanity because it doesn't require any extra stuff. You just put the disc in and get a serious workout. If you liked month one, you'll really like month two! Overall I lost about 10 lbs but almost all of it was in month 2. Get rid of your scale. Figure out your calorie goal base on your target weight and go to work. If you do the program and eat at a deficit, you'll lose weight. How much will depend on how much of a deficit but don't scale watch. You'll be very happy with results if you finish the entire program. Good luck!0

Definitely depends on your goals.
I've done both programs, and oh man, whichever you chose will work you for sure. But, the results will be different.
- Insanity
Insanity will have you sweating the pounds right off. It's much more difficult than p90x cardio-wise. It doesn't really put on any muscle though. What Insanity did for me was burn my fat right off, increase my speed and agility greatly, which was great for soccer season, and increase my cardio-health like crazy.
- P90X
P90X is a program that will improve your body in every way. It's much harder than Insanity strength/muscle wise. You will lose body fat and inches while building muscle. No, you won't get crazy brolic. Most woman are afraid of lifting because they think they will get huge, that's not true. You will get nicely toned arms, legs, back, you name it! What P90X did for me was greatly increase my strength, flexibility, built some nice muscle, everything.
So, it all depends on your goals. If I HAD to chose only one program to do, it would be P90X. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Insanity. It's what started my fitness life. But, I'm not looking to lose any more weight. I'm looking to get stronger, so Insanity isn't really for me now. I still do Insanity workouts from time to time though, the cardio is crazy, and Insanity will test you to your limits, which I absolutely love. Whichever you choose, trust me, you will absolutely love. Any more questions, just message me0 -
Insanity: Weight loss comes in the second month but you have to have the diet plan correct for it to work right. I loss 15 pounds and 4" on my waist. My abs have a nice outline, chest more defined and my quads are ripped. Do it, stick with it, it will work0

Wow!! Thank you all so much. I appreciate the responses. I wish I had enough time to double up and do both full programs at the same time.. Maybe I can find a way to do that without going overboard. I will definitely look into that P90X/Insanity hybrid schedule that was mentioned as I have both programs! Thanks a bunch guys0
