How do you know which food to pick from the database?

Hi all,
Quick question - how do you make YOUR selection from the food database when there are multiple entries for one item? Obviously, if it comes in a packet, I double check the nutritional information there. If we're dining out, I check to see if the place has a website with calorie info. So really my question relates to those other foods, say in restaurants without calorie info available.
For example, the food for the Toby Carvery is listed on MFP as being added by another member. I can't find the info anywhere else online, so do I trust the calorie guess made by whoever entered it? Or, was it an educated guess that could be way off? Do MFP staff check these entries before making them available for other members to look at? Just curious and keen to know I'm recording things as accurately as possible and not kidding myself. If I'm going to indulge while eating out, I need to know just how naughty I've been and how hard I need to work in the gym the next day
Thanks in advance.

I would log it but also leave room for error!! I added all my recipes to mfp so I have my own little database. My idea of a portion might be different that someone else's!0

If you're not going to a chain where they likely have nutritional information available, you're just going to have to guess. Take your meal and estimate what's all in it.
If it's a chain, there's likely a way to obtain nutritional information and you can double check that way. Try emailing support. A google search might bring some things up too.0
