So right now I weigh 227 now my question is can I lift weights to lose fat or is cardio the only answer? Truthfully I like to dance and am slowly getting into jogging but I feel so strong and just idk great lol when I'm lifting I like feeling the burn and pushing myself a little more towards that feeling. Can I do nothing but lift and eat healthy foods and protein to lose the weight with light cardio like jumping jacks and jump rope to cool down after the lifting? Please share your pics and experience if you started lifting while bigger like me and lost the weight that way. Thanks! Your awesome!!

yes, you can lift to lose fat...you will lose fat if you lift heavy with a program like stronglifts or SS....you will not need cardio to go with it, in fact, as you progress you will not be able to do any cardio...0

Thing is about lifting is its more difficult for the body to adapt to it if you continue to progress.
That is, every week you are going up in weight on the bar/dumbell.
Your goal is to continue to lift more weight every week thus giving your body reason to maintain lean mass.0 -

I started out just walking at 235. I picked up kettlebell training about a month later, maybe around 225? Then, when I started lifting at the end of October I was something like 205 lbs, and I'm hanging out around 177 now, so yeah. In my experience you can lift the weights, get stronger, and still lose weight.
I don't find that I can add weight to every lift every week these days....(I think I need to invest in a set of fractional weights in order to do that) but something does improve every week, whether it is just one or two of my lifts, or my kettlebell work, my endurance, etc. it's always something.0 -

weights are working for me. I dont progress every week with loading but go up once I find 10 reps too easy, I then build a higher weight into my third set. I have shoulder problems too so am careful. Currently using about 10Kg on the chest press using dumbells and pullover. I have definitely "toned up". Nearly 26 pounds lost in weight slowly over 6 months. I am glad I started with the weights relatively early. Being an "older" person I need time to recover so exercise 3x a week when I can. Good luck!0

Can I take extra protein to build muscle now even though I am losing the weight and wanting to build muscle?0
