When I weighed myself Saturday morning, I weighed 269.8 making my first month of weight loss at a whopping 21lbs! I was SO so so so so so ecstatic! I couldn't believe it. All my hard work had paid off. My fiance was so excited for me. I haven't been out to eat in 5 weeks so for celebration, he took me out to eat. The only place that wasn't packed was a buffet. So I said alright, I wont' over eat. I'll be fine! I can restrain myself. And I did! You can check out my weight loss diary for Saturday. Yes, I had a lot of calories, but I still didn't go over my calories for the day AND I worked out as soon as I got home.

So of course, I had to check the scale the next morning and BAM... 272.4. :( What?!!!!??? no no no... that can't be right.

Then, every Sunday we go to my parents for family dinner and she made home made mac and cheese. I made sure that I didn't overeat on pasta and cheese. So I had what I thought looked like 2 cups. I logged it and everything. I was STILL under my calories for the day. Came home, watched a movie with the fiance, had popcorn and crab rangoons. (bad bad bad, i know) but STILL under my calories for the day considering that I worked out hardcore that morning.

Weighed myself this morning, 273.6. WHAT?????!!!!!! no no no no no. No!

What the heck is going on? Why did I gain 4 pounds from 2 nights of eating bad?

I'm so ashamed of myself that I don't want to eat anything today. Knowing that that's the wrong thing to do, I'm just going back to my regular eating pattern and hoping that I can lose those 4lbs and keep on losing, but my motivation is severely lacking today.

Did I really eat SO badly that those 4lbs are just going to sit there and haunt me?

I need some positive thoughts and motivation because I'm so sad right now. Who knew losing weight can be addicting and when you actually gain weight back, you get kind of depressed. :(

Anyone else go through these little fluctuations?

Hey! I went to a class with a nutritionist who to prove a point weighed herself every hour for a day and her weight fluctuated 8+- lbs throughout the day. Sometimes is better to wait for your next weekly weigh in. Weighing every day can either, really encourage you to go harder or discourage you. Do not be discouraged. The scale is just...well..that. It measures your weight @ that very moment. You could be bloated, full of water...haven't use the bathroom, about to get your period..so many things! You are doing awesome! Keep going!

Thanks!!! I know that I'm over analyzing this whole thing but I just can't believe that I'm back in the 270's. I was finally in the 260s and ready to lose more! This is a huge set back. :(

    Buffet = Sodium
Mac & Cheese, Popcorn, Crab Ragoon = Sodium

Drink lots of water, it'll flush out. You're retaining water, you didn't gain 4lbs.

As the above posters have said, your body will fluctuate drastically even throughtout the day. Try not to weight yourself more than once a week.

Also, I have to second drinking a lot of water to flush the sodium from your system.

I fluctuate about 3-4lbs per day... especially depending on sodium intake and water intake.

chances are your sodium intake spiked when you ate at the buffet. try to flush it out of your body by drinking some water and I wouldn't be too concerned, if you kept your portions in check, it would be very unlikely that you gained 4lbs.

I get the urge to go out to dinner (especially when you haven't for a long time) but instead of going where ever is convenient, make it special, a fancy place or someplace that you can check out the menu online prior and pick some healthy choices from. If your fiancé was doing this to show he was proud, make a plan for it so you don't end up at a buffet next month.

One thing I would suggest though, have your fiancé come up with some different ways to show he's proud of you. Have you talked to him about what all your goals are? If no, tell him your short and long term goals--having support makes all the difference, especially if you can get it at home and on here. Once you have your goals outlined, set up small "rewards" for yourself that are not food related (i.e. new pair earrings, spa day, weekend trip away, new clothes, etc).

    Keep up the good work!

Every time I have done anything to lose weight I weighed myself too much and it always discouraged me if I didn't lose a lot or at all or gained. I am about to start trying to lose weight again and I think I'm going to try to just weigh myself once a month so I can give it a really good try without derailing myself with the scale.

I think like the others said it is from the sodium and is just water weight.

That's why we weigh in once a week, the daily fluctuations can sink you! (And occasionally the weekly ones, but they are fewer.)

Also, if you are at family's take your measuring cups. The ye of a generous host is not always accurate and if you 'measure' mentally, it's a recipe for disaster. (Sorry, couldn't help myself.)

Thanks a lot!!! My fiance is still trying to get used to be living a healthy lifestyle and I guess he resorted back to our old lifestyle and figured that I would love going out to eat. Which, I did. But I love the idea of special rewards for meeting certain goals. I like that a lot! I'll have to talk to him about that. Thanks!!

It sounds like you're really doing great & I'm sure you're proud of yourself along with your fiancé! Just keep on going. Your weight will be different on different days. Just take one day at a time & don't let any family members force you to eat mac & cheese! If going to a relative's house, sometimes you have to take a reduced calorie something just for you. There are days when I eat a totally different meal from my family...and guess what...they don't care what I eat! So you just pick the healthy stuff for yourself and walk proud!
