i'm quite confused..
i thought that by eating less calories would help me lose weight faster... but, reading round now, apparently not.
and whats ths deficit thing mean?
is it good to have a deficit?
and the bmr, my bmr comes around 1400, so, by eating my target of 1200 (always under though, just cant eat that much!) will i lose weight, or will i go into "starvation mode"????
also, any calories i burn doing exercise, do i need to eat them again, to lose weight?
i'm so confuzzled!!!!

This is just my opinion, I'm no expert. It is what has worked for me, though. I try to come very close to my reccommended calories (1200), and if I have exercised, and I am hungry, I eat SOME of my exercise calories. I always try to leave about 100 exercise calories "on the table" just in case my calorie burning, or calorie eating is a little off from the data base. This has worked great for me. I've been at it 5 months, and lost about 30 pounds. At first, the pounds just melted off, almost effortlessly. Recently, I've re-figured my calories to lose only 1/2 lb per week, since I am within 5 lbs of goal, and I seemed to have plateaued. So recently, eating more has actually helped push me off my plateau and started me losing again. So I think you just have to be very honest in your diary, and watch and see what works. And then it changes!
Good luck. This is the best thing that has happened to me!!0 -
well from personal experience i would say to eat all your calories as often as you can. i say this because i thought it was a good idea to eat less than my allowed calories and ended up getting stuck for a few weeks at 130.... i found a post by one of mfp members (who got alot of flak for saying what she said which was not fair to her) and decided to try eating all of my calories or right there at them... AND since i have my weight started dropping again im at 126 in about 3 wks. i could loose more but haven't stuck with my exercise like usual these last two weeks since my kids are out of school and i havent felt well. so if i were you i would really try to eat all those calories because going into starvation mode (for me) sucked since my body held on to all that i put in it since it wasn't getting enough to keep it happy. when i do have a hard time eating all of them i have some fruit or my fav isthe 100 calories snacks like cookies or mini snickers icecream bars or breyers icecream cookie sammies which are arund 200 i think.. nothing wrong with that once in a while... hope this helps some??? :indifferent:0

I try and stay between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. In addition watch what you eat. Such as there are good carbs and bad carbs. Good carbs are found in things like oatmeal and consume most carbs in the morning so your body has fuel for the day. If your BMR is 1400 and you only eat 1000 calories per day you have a 200 calorie deficit. 200 *7 days 1400 calories a week. There are approximetly 3500 calories in a pound of fat. As for excercise goes if you cant afford a gym save 2 1 gallon milk jugs and fill them with sand or water. Hold them one in each hand as you do lunges. You can also hold them as you do squats.0
