I have to take meds for a health issue. and I find it has altered my metabolism greatly. It took me along time to even think I could possibly lose any weight I have gained because of my meds. Does anyone else struggle with this? Have you overcome it?

I guess I am just accepting my body has changed for good, there is no bouncing back like in the past, and I have to take my meds regardless of what the scale reads.

Thanks for listening.

    i take many.
It makes it harder, not impossible.
try eating less and moving more.
at the very least it should keep you from gaining more weight.
also, I suggest having more reasonable goals in terms of not aiming for the low end of a "healthy" weight range.

Can taking vitamins and supplements like B's and Ginseng help?

Unfortunately I can't say I had success while on medication. I switched to alternative medicines and since my metabolism has *almost* come back. I generally lose about 1lb per 2lbs I SHOULD be losing, but at least I am losing now.

Thanks Tigress for your honest answer. I did figure it would make things a bit harder.
Melo, that is a fantastic question. I will defiantly research it.

I was on 3 diff medications for certain symptoms. Come to find out they were ALL symptoms of Hypothyroidism, but no one ever caught it till now. They just kept prescribing meds to cover up the other symptoms. No matter what I did, I couldn't lose weight and didn't feel like myself. I was recently taken off those 3 and have lost a bit of weight as a result. I start thyroid meds tomorrow.
If you've tried everything else and if you haven't done any bloodwork recently, it might be worth it to see if there isn't something else going on that you aren't aware of.

I'm taking Phentermine. I have low energy until I take them. but I do realize that has it's addictive quality. So what I do is to start with hald of the 37.5 pill. and gradually step it up, so that I have extra energy without the Laser focused effects. So now I'm taking .7 or .8 of a pill.

I have so much energy that I'd immediately start working out. And it does have results. Also depends on your discipline.
Just my 2 cents, hope it helps.
  • I am also taking medication that makes you gain weight. Unfortunately, it is for depression/anxiety which has been getting worse. The doctor has had to up the dose. It is making it hard for me to lose those pounds as well, even with following when eating 1,200 calories, doing MFP, and walking the treadmill 3x a week. I am also dealing with unusual bloating, which makes me look even heavier. I have no answer, but know there are others out there with your problem!

For bloating you can drink green tea and make sure you get at least 12 glasses of fluids.
