I weigh how much?!

I bought a new set of weighing scales yesterday. An electronic one that counts all sorts of bits and pieces, but ultimately, how much I weigh.

I have put on nearly 14lbs since I last weighed myself.
That's twice what I lost last time I weighed myself.

I can't even begin to explain how much that has depressed me.

My friend has recently lost a lot of weight and changed his lifestyle completely. I weigh more than him now. That's sickening.
I don't look it. I'm not tall but I don't look like I weight the amount I do. Or so I think. Maybe I do, and I'm just a walking balloon of fat.

It's not healthy. I know changes need to be made, but at the moment, I'm so depressed about everything, that this just makes me want to hide away until it magically comes off.

What the hell can I do?!

Hint: start counting cals and cleaning up your act first thing tomorrow. Don't waste time feeling depressed about it, that won't change anything.

    Just do it.

You can't compare what one set of scales read with what another set reads. Start afresh with these new scales. And just remember that being here and thinking about doing something about your weight is the first step. Onwards! Always onwards. Good luck

Different scales read differently. If you've been doing well watching your calories then it sounds like the difference is entirely in your scales and how they're sitting on the floor. When I was growing up I weighed 20 lb different on my grandma's scale than I did on my mom's--weighing on one then walking to the other side of the house and weighing on the other. If the number is going to make you feel depressed, put it under the bathroom sink for a while and just stick with what you're doing. Maybe add some exercise if you aren't yet. Once you start noticing your clothes fitting differently, then it's time to pull out the scale again.

I read this marshmallow-test article and for the most part a lot of it made sense. Then I got to this...........

    * Never attempt to train yourself into a caloric deficit. Don't spend hours on the treadmill. Diet comes first, cardio second. The dumbest fat loss strategy ever devised is used by people that wake up early in the morning before going to work to do cardio and follow that up with "recovery shake." Congratulations, you just wasted two hours of your life. Cardio is good for cardiovascular health, but most people use cardio as a fat loss tool - and force themselves through regimens that aren't very conducive to their daily routine (or mental sanity). Next time, skip the shake and the cardio. Sleep two hours longer, but skip breakfast and fast until lunch time. This way you can create the same caloric deficit with the added bonus of feeling more rested and having saved more time. You'll be much better off.

I'm so confused. I workout in the morning (it's the only time of day I can workout) somedays it's strength training, somedays cardio, somedays a bit of both, but that's the only chance I have to workout. Also I thought skipping breakfast was the worst thing you could do?? Breakfast starts your metabolism for the day doesn't it?
