Muscle weighs more than fat....discuss

So, I started this in this forum because most of you will have very smart answers to this age old question. What is the correct statement:

Option A: Muscle weighs more than fat! (1 pound of muscle vs 1 pound of fat)

Option B: Muscle takes up less space than fat. (1 gallon of muscle vs 1 gallon of fat)

Please discuss and feel free to attack me since I can say my own confession!

I don't see the point of this thread. A pound is a pound, muscle is more dense than fat.

density... muscle is about 10% more dense.

1 pound of muscle is the same weight as 1 pound of fat. 1 pound.

a pound is a pound - BY WEIGHT.

a pound is NOT a pound - BY VOLUME

instead of comparing muscle and fat, replace with feathers and bricks. A pound of feathers weighs exactly the same as a pound of bricks. BUT, if you measure the same by volume, the feathers will take up WAY more space than the bricks.

muscle weighs the same as fat. 1lbs of muscle same weight as 1lbs of fat.

1lbs of bricks weighs the same as 1lbs of feathers.

The difference? Muscle is more dense, like if you fill a bottle with sand and you fill a similar bottle with pebbles. They will both be full, but the sand will most likely be heavier because its more dense.

I am going to go with neither. A pound is 16 ounces regardless of how it is comprised. A gallon is 128 ounces (usually liquid) no matter of what is made. That being said if you compare a box of equal size one containing fat and one containing muscle then the box containing muscles should weigh more. Muscle weighs more than the same volume size of fat would weigh.

I believe its more like Muscle is more dense than fat.

Like putting a pound of jello versus a pound of rock.

It weighs the same, but muscle takes less space.

This was always what I thought.

People are getting caught up in semantics.

Muscle weighs more than fat in the same way that bricks weigh more than feathers.

We all know that people who say this are saying that a volume of muscle weighs more than the same volume of fat.

If you argue otherwise, you can't say that elephants weigh more than mice. A tonne of elephants weigh the same as a tonne of mice. But when someone says that elephants weigh more than mice, we know what they mean, and don't correct them.

    Don't be so picky, people!

Okay. If you're saying the statement "muscle weighs more than fat" is incorrect due to the fact that a lb of muscle weighs the same as a lb of fat, then you're essentially saying that nothing ever weighs more than anything else, because a pound is a pound.

When people use the term "this weighs more than that" they're refering to two subjects with the same volume, not the same WEIGHT. DUH you don't compare weights of two things that weigh the same! You compare weights of two things with the same volume, or, take up the same amount of space.

Sheesh. I can't read another one of these thread or I'm seriously going to lose it.

The whole "a pound is a pound" is an invalid argument.
100 pounds of steel and 100 pounds of Ben and jerrys is the same "weight"
    But obviously steel weighs more.
Someone with 1 square foot of muscle and 1 square fat vs the same person
But 2 square foot muscle and2 square foot fat would have a less % BF yet
    They would WEIGH MORE.
    Case closed.

Reading this discussion is making me feel more dense. Does that mean I am adding muscle?

    Topics like these are stupid.

If I say steel weighs more then feathers I am not claiming a 1 pound of steel weighs more then 1 pound of feathers... I am saying by volume steel is heavier then feathers.

When people here say muscle weighs more the fat... they are not saying 1 pound of muscle weighs more then 1 pound of fat..

They are saying by volume (density), muscle weighs than fat.
