NROLfW... scared!

I bought the book. It's sitting in my living room. I've read it.... but I haven't started!
I weight trained for years with a trainer and my mom.... four days a week on average. But I always had someone with me, showing me what to do. Not only that, nine times out of ten it was machines or "barbie weights". I will admit, my body was pretty rockin', but I also did it for yeeeears. And I was never really strong.
And.... it's been a solid five years or more since I had a really consistent training plan. My mom moved states, so my workout buddy is capoosh!
Which brings me to..... I'm terrified of the man side of the gym! Fumbling my way through with a bunch of meat heads surrounding me. (My gym, anyways). Most of those exercises in the book I've never seen. I feel a little jipped, having spent all that time in the gym...... but apparently those lifting barbie weights just don't notice what else happens around them.
How did you beginners figure this out without looking like a total baffoon?
Also, what is your opinion on the diet? I have the hardest time with that. Do I eat 1200, or 1600, or 1900?!?! So many opinions. How did you find what worked best for you?
I want to be strong, fit and healthy. But I'd also like to accomplish this without feeling like a boob. The idea is to build confidence.... not break it down on day one...

Looking forward to these replys...!0 -
First off- Who cares what those meatheads at the gym think? You are doing this for you! You gotta adopt the "watch me do me" attitude and not care at all what other people think. Seriously.
Your gym should offer you a personal trainer meeting for free, where you can address your concerns with them. If not, it's worth paying for a session or two.
Most important though, of course at the beginning everyone feels real silly and looks weird. Who cares. Do NOT let that discourage you. It's all about the end result. Plus you aren't trying to impress a bunch of meatheads. You are getting yourself back to where you want to be, and that is admirable!
Care about yourself, not what strangers think.

I just started the program too and had no idea what I was doing but I watched a bunch of youtube videos and checked the book constantly and so far so good! I wish I could afford a trainer but I can't so I do the best I can, if something feels funny or not natural then I stop and reevaluate. Honestly people at the gym care less what you are doing! I sometimes think in my head, "that person is totally doing it wrong" but would never say anything lol I recommend joining the group and using the links it has, very helpful! I printed off the workout logs to keep track of what I'm doing and I like to hear the advice from other women.
good luck!

You Tube is a great idea, thanks! I always forget about the vast amount of online videos.
It's hard not to care what people are thinking... even if I know in my logical brain they probably could care less and won't think about it again in .2 seconds. Generally I don't... but doing something totally foreign is def scarey!
I gotta get my confidence pants on...... and watch some videos lol0 -
I'll admit, it's pretty intimidating to go on the "man side" of the gym, but when it comes down to it, you just gotta do it! After a few days you won't even care anymore. I felt the same as you, but now I go and do my thing and don't care what any of the other people there think. If you don't know how to set up a machine or something like that, don't be afraid to ask one of the guys or employees for help. They'll probably be impressed that a girl is lifting and be more than happy to help you out! We all have to start somewhere.

The best way is going to be looking like you know what you're doing. I started that program last week but I have weights at home so I haven't needed to worry about it. Put your headphones in and don't look at them if it helps. Or you could do the exact opposite and bat your eyelashes and say "Hey, I can't figure this machine out. Can you show me how?"0

Just go for it and in a few days you'll be past the "newness" of it.0

DO NOT worry about anyone but you. Every person there started at some point. I felt like you when I started until I noticed that all the meatheads have terrible form and are so concerned with staring at their biceps, they never notice anyone else. I also found that 9 out of 10 times, every guy there lifting is happy to help spot or answer questions if you ask!! Just do it, even if you suck at first!!!
Good luck, add me if you like!!0
