Biking and big thighs

I am 5'6" at 156 lbs and looking to lose 20 lbs. I actually have nice curves but bigger butt and thighs. Does anyone find that mountain biking increases the size of your thighs? I feel like after I ride for a few months that my pants fit tighter in the legs. Should I try to lose the weight first and then ride? HELP!

No, you won't gain huge leg muscles from riding your bike. You will definitely get more defined calves and your upper thigh will show some lines from the muscle; but that will mainly be from the fat melting off. (No it won't spot reduce).
Unless you actually do progressive overloading on your muscles (heavier weight) you won't gain a lot of muscle.
Biking is one of the best (well my favorite) forms of cardio and should do you well.0 -
Thank you for the info! I have heard that it would tone not build my thighs but I just feel like they are getting bigger. I too love to bike and really don't want to give it up. I will continue to ride0
