Knee pain

Hello all,
I am writing cause I just started working out about 3 weeks ago doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and been having some knee pains. It's on the sides of my knees and feels like a bruise. When I push on the sides of my knees it hurts just like a bruise but there is no discoloration. I feel like it has to so with jumping jacks although I can't be certain that's what it is. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what to do about it. Should I get a brace or will that even help? Any insight into the matter would be greatly appreciated!
TYIA!

go to an orthopedist. do not buy a brace without knowing what is wrong. different braces support different parts of the knee and you can do more harm than good.
no one here, over the internet, can tell you what is wrong with your knee. that is why doctor's have offices.

I had the same thing happen w/that DVD. I had had knee trouble in the past, but hadn't had problems w/it again until I did that DVD. I think it may be, depending on the knee issue, that when she does stuff where the joint is at an angle, or her running in circles, things like that, that it aggravates things. I haven't done it again, there are plenty of other things I can do to get in shape without risking that. They're a little dated, but work great...the Kathy Smith Aerobox and Kickboxing DVDS, plus TaeBo.0

It will give you knee trouble if you aren't doing the moves 100% accurately, you need to be very mindful of your positions at all times. However, this isn't specific to the 30DS it's the same for all home workout DVDs. It's kind of the downside to home workouts!
I have had 1 or 2 injuries now from home work outs, but they also taught me how to do the moves properly and now I don't sustain injuries anymore as most moves are the same after doing quite a few different DVDs!
I recommend you go to see a doctor though and stop the workout, go back to it once the pain has gone away.0 -
It could be due to poor form when doing squats and lunges. Jillian videos do a horrible job of explaining proper form.
One option is to stick to low impact exercises until you lose more weight so there's less stress on your knees.0 -

This.
You should also have sneakers with good support in the arches and heels. Dr. Scholl's makes inserts that I like. They're about $36, but my knee pain is gone (and I have patellar femoral syndrome) and no more shin splints. In conjunction with correct form, of course.0 -

Unfortunately, I don't have health insurance so that is not an option for me. I know no one can diagnose what is wrong, I just thought someone would have the same problems as I since the JM 30DS seems to be a popular DVD.0 -
Thank you all. I am now suspecting (while thinking back on my workouts) that is could be the form. Maybe I'll do a different exercise for awhile like jogging or brisk walking.0
