Rest days

Just checking, does everyone have a rest day...
I tend to do strength one day, cardio the next and don't usually mix them up on the same day due to lack of time but sometimes I just don't feel like it! Anyone else have a day with NO exercise... (apologies for no question marks - silly laptop!)

Absolutely... everyone should rest every once in a while. Especially strength training.
I used to do cardio every single day, and I'd burn out if I didn't rest occasionally.0 -
.I have only missed a few days over the last ~390 days and that was for kidney stones. I do cardio 7 days a week. I remember someone telling me that was not good for me0

I have two rest days, and I probably should have at least one more.0

I am interested in the answers to this question as well. I have not had a rest day for more than 2 months and feel great. I mostly do circuit type--combo of cardio and strengh but no heavy lifting yet due to an injury.0

I think rest days are very important. That doesn't mean that you don't do anything. Sometimes on a rest day I'll still go for a walk, but a relaxing walk with a different mentality. And once a week I have an eat whatever the h I want day. Usually on Fridays because it's also my most physically active day. If you feel like you need a rest, take a rest. If you feel like you're just being lazy, push though it or do something light.0

I think this is how I feel - I'm tending to naturally have one rest day a week right now so good to know it's 'ok'! I really enjoy my exercise but sometimes I just get that feeling that I need to rest. I don't drive, have a very very busy life with my 2 little girls and walk miles and miles as part of my everyday life so I kinda feel ok about it0 -
I usually have two rest days a week. Every trainer I talk to and every article I have read say rest days are just as important as the work out days. Your body needs those to heal.0

I run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (long run).
Strength train and cross training on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sunday.
Off day is Friday.
This is for a particular training program.
When I'm past the event I'm training form, I will probably keep this similar schedule, only adding an extra run day (because I like running) and dumping one of the strength/cross training days.
I will maintain the Friday off. I believe it helps keep me injury free as does not doing the same thing two days in a row (although I will be running two days in a row when I add the extra day).0 -
If your body is hurting, if you are sick, or if you are exceptionally tired, your body will let you know...take a day off. I don't schedule my rest days. I enjoy working out on days I feel pretty good (I don't excuse light colds or minor soreness). If life is expecting a lot of me, I prioritize the living, and work out with what I have leftover. If life is not as demanding, I schedule a harder workout that day. Works for me.0

I have one active rest day per week. I go for a long walk or bike ride but nothing too strenuous.0

Every training program requires a "rest" day which is designed around recovery. Began working a 3/1 and it seems to actually have the additional benefit of reminding me how beneficial my workouts are. Three days on and 1 day off allows a recovery period and on days I'm struggling to work out gives me something to look forward to but it seems like I sleep better on my workout days so I don't get complacent.
If you watched last season of Biggest Loser, Bob Harper wore a 3/1 for 365 T-shirt. I'd say it's hard to argue with his fitness level or his results.0 -
Yes, I have 2 "rest day's from the gym" but I do so much around the house that I don't really rest. I've heard you should split them up but I go to the gym on my way to work in the morning so I do the gym M-F & my rest day's are the weekend. Maybe not ideal but I found when I tried to go the gym for classes on Saturdays that I didn't get anything done at home and I was more exhausted. Do what works for you - just make sure you are resting in between strength training days if you are doing "total body" workouts. I do all muscles M,W & F. If I were doing upper one day and lower the next then I would be doing it everyday. Your body will tell you when it needs a rest. Listen to it0
