I've been working with MFP for a while now and I recently I started adding my old weight routine to my exercise program. The program now consists of cardio 3x a week and weights 3x a week. That said, I'm thinking the MFP program of 15% of calories from protein is low for a 43 y.o. guy who wants to tone up.

I've found online calculators that suggest 1 gram for every lb (target weight). So that puts me at 170 grams per day. That was pretty easy to dial in....but that left me wondering what would be the right mix for carbs vs. fat.....right now it looks like this:

Protein - 50%, or 168 grams
Carbs - 30%, or 101 grams
Fat - 20%, or 30 grams

Looking for suggestions,
T.

I figure mine at 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass and 0.35g of fat per total pounds. The rest gets filled in with carbs. Seems to be working for me :)

I lift heavy weights and my macros are set to 45/30/25 carbs/protein/fat. Another popular split for lifters is 40/40/20.

The 1 gram per pound thing is based on LEAN body weight (muscle & bone), not total weight. Better to use 0.75 grams of protein per pound of total body weight.

    50% protein is too high.
