Sorry about the length, I am on my last leg here and have not found any reason or solid diagnosis. I am in constant pain and have been unable to go to the gym for almost 4 months.

Background Info:

6'3"
Male

Back in October I injured my back doing squats after sitting in a car for 8 house, my back was stiff, but I went to the gym anyway. What happened was that I was going too low and that made me have "butt wink." When I initially hurt it it was not bad. I took it easy for a week and then a week later I went to the gym again for my squat workout and re injured it, but worse. Most likely because I had again gone too low with choppy form and resulting "butt wink." Like and idiot I thought that I was not injured as bad as I was and next week I was rate back in the gym "taking it light," but this was preventing it from healing.

So at the end of November, still feeling pain (which I can describe as the right mid back was tight and seemed like a pain near the ribs below the shoulder blade and the lower back was tight and pinched, kind of like a herniated disk) I went to see a Dr. I got 2 x-rays of my back and had them read by the dr. The Dr. said that I did not display symptoms of a herniated disk and the only thing that the x-ray showed was Spina Bifida Occulta. Specifically the right part of the vertebrae never touched the left and ended up going past is. I was told by my Dr. that is was no big deal as the cartilage surrounding the bone is harder than the bone in that area. What he did note from the x-ray is that my tail bone is not centered/aligned properly and that my hips are not straight either. He suggested that I see a chiropractor as he stated the reason why I was in pain is the alignment stemming from abnormalities in structure was causing pressure on the right side of my back. (picture standing but sort of leaning down with the right side of the shoulder) With my hand to my side the right hand sat almost 2 inches lower than the left, meaning that I was off balance stemming from area of my injury.

So I brought my x-rays to the chiropractor and he said the same thing. I saw him a total of 7 times. By the end of my visits I was realigned somewhat as standing with my arms to my side was normal and less than an eighth inch off and my back had made improvements in the lower pinching pain described before. I had this (x-ray and chiropractor) done over winter break form college. Home is about an 8 hour drive form school. So I headed back to school.(January)

The first week back I felt no lower back pain issues at all. I felt great in that area, but the upper back portion still stayed. Originally I thought that the lower pain and upper pain where all one injury, but when the lower healed I found out quickly that it was not the case. Now this nagging pain is on the right side upper back near the ribs (same as before). Stretching makes it hurt worse. When I touch my toes the pain shoots to the front of my ribs. Depending on how I sit a deep breath will aggravate the injury. Sometimes my middle of my back goes numb and tingles.

This is how it has been for a month and a half. Last week and went and got another x-ray, standing this time, and an MRI. The x-ray only showed what we already knew, that I'm not perfectly aligned, my tailbone is shifted counter clockwise and that my spine is not straight and is leaning one way. My chiropractor thinks that this is why I am experiencing pain, that my spine tries to compensate for the tailbone, thus putting pressure in my upper back right side.

Does anyone have any idea? This bothers me 24/7, I have been unable to lift and I'm sick of taking an anti-inflammatory just to feel some relief.

Sounds like the pain I had years ago when I was a gymnast
the joint that holds the shoulder blade to the collar bone was seperated
took 6 months of not working out or really moving upper body to heal then 9 months of physio
gl to you hope you find out what is wrong

I want to do this, but the pain I feel can not be from a simple alignment issue. It hurts too much.

update. Had the MRI read again. T5, T6, T7 with disk herniation on the side with all the pain. Good news is that disk herniation is manageable with PT.
