Constantly over in protien

Hi! Just curious how bad it is for me to ALWAYS be over in protein? Or is it bad at all. I occasionally go over in sugar but never on anything else. I am a BIG girl looking lose BIG in this new life change. Any thoughts?

Are you using the MFP default settings? Protein % is insanely low on that anyway

Protien is good!! I am always over on my protien and it is intentional. Protien keeps you fuller. Sticks with you longer.

My trainer says, based on my body fat percentage I can safely eat 170gm of lean protien a day.

high protein is fine as long as you don't have any pre-existing kidney problems

Are your macros correct? I just read this great thread which will help you set the correct goals: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/937712-in-place-of-a-road-map-ver-3-0

I've read that you should aim to eat 1 gram protein for every pound you weigh.
  • I am using whatever is in MFP. I am as healthy as can be for being over weight. Thank you for the feedback. Seeing the little red numbers at the bottom is frustrating, but only when it has a negative outcome.

Thanks for posting this - I too am new to the tracking and am over on my protein almost every day. I was just doing a quick search before I posted the question myself. So over the MFP protein guide is not bad?

It's actually preferable. Current medical guidance is .8-1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass. For women the average is 100-110 grams per day. Fat at 25-30% of calories and the balance in carbs. You can set your goals using the instructions in the roadmap.

MFP starts with the standard USDA 2,000 calorie diet, which is already very low in protein, and then adjusts for the calorie level. This doesn't take into account the needs of a reduced calorie level or working out.
