A few years ago lost 50 lbs by counting calories and was not doing any exercise. The majority of the weight came off on the upper part of my body, some around the waist. Fast forward to the beginning of this year. I had gained 40 lbs back and have managed to lose 30 of them by calorie counting AND exercise, this time around. The majority of the weight is coming off my thighs and legs and my pants are lose around that area but still fitting on my stomach... whats the deal. Why wont this gut start to melt already...
Anyone ever experience something like this.. i thought I was going to lose the weight like the first time.

Not sure why it happens. Age? Children? But if it makes you feel any better, it happened to me, too. When I lost weight a couple of years ago, it came off my hips first--almost 4 inches off them before I lost anything measurable off my waist. It did seem odd, because my usual pattern was to lose off midsection first--in fact, the last time I had hips this size, my waist was several inches smaller.
I kept that weight off, then went back to tracking calories again this January to see if I can reduce the waist and belly. So where am I losing weight most quickly this time? My bust! Sigh.
The belly is getting smaller, by the way. It just takes time and patience--the weight is going to come off where it darn well pleases, and there's not a lot we can do about it. Just accept the changes as they come, and keep working on it!0 -
I think it's one of the hardest places to get rid of fat; unfortunately it's a lot of calorie counting, avoid foods that make you feel bloated, eating little and often (that one always works for me, but i realize eating habits are a personal choice) and lots of ab exercises.0

I suppose your right.. i just want to wear my smaller jeans I have and throw out the ones I keep having to wear because they fit around the waist so much better but look so old and worn out..hehehe thats all.0

ab exercises will do nothing towards eliminating belly fat besides what any sort of exercise does. "Targeted fat" loss is a myth and it typically comes off your body proportionally and not one area alone. Doing ab exercises is good because a strong core is a very important thing and once you do loss the excess fat around the midsection area they will begin to show more if they are worked out, like any other muscle. I'm not sure why it is different this time around but it is a slow process in that area for most people.0

I was attracted to this thread because of the topic, I too feel I am losing weight different this time around. But for me it is more mental than physical. I am really trying to think of what I am doing as changing the way I eat (as opposed to dieting). Because as you stated very well - diets come and go, as do the lbs lost and regained.
But with that said here is what I think of jeans and body types:
No matter what weight I am, I have to try on at least 10 pairs of jeans to find a pair that fit me. About 4 pairs (of the 10) are due to the length and my height as I am 5'5". But more often it is about where my waist is, the current shape of my *kitten*, and the size of my thighs. You may want to try on different jeans (brands and styles), if you cannot afford to buy, try on the same styles and brands after 5lbs, 10 lbs etc.
In addition current "style" can be a factor of the fit. I am almost 54 ( a week away) but the lower fitting current style of jeans fit my body much better than the longer zipper higher fitting.0 -
thanks for all your feedback... ill take it into consideration and try different pair of jeans. Its not so much I can not buy new ones, i just dont want to. I have my old ones that are calling my name but they just dont fit0
