Low blood pressure?

Hello

I had my blood pressure checked as part of a campaign at the pharmacy this morning and it was 98/61 - they took 3 to check and they were all around that mark (+/- 1 on each of systolic and diastolic). They said this was excellent for my very large size... (lovely way of phrasing it in a busy shop!)
However, this to me sounds quite low - as I understand it average is 120/80?
Is this low enough that I should be concerned or is it within the acceptable range?

Your reading is fine! My last reading a couple days ago was 100/60. Caveat: I think my lower reading comes from a combination of doing a lot of exercise, and having a naturally lower BP anyway. If you're at all concerned, or have any symptoms that worry you (light-headedness, etc) then do see someone :) But in itself, the reading isn't bad.

My BP is that low. It's hereditary. My whole family has that.

    Thank you!
I don't have any symptoms that worry me - I just wanted some reassurance that it wasn't dangerous.

You're probably fine - mine is always around 100/60, as is my husband's who is twice my size. A lot of people would kill for your BP :)

For me, I get that low when I reduce sodium, but then I also start getting head rushes when I stand up--to the point of almost passing out. So I don't restrict sodium, and get readings more in the normal range (110/70 the other day, sometimes lower).

Yup, it's fine. Mine actually runs a tad lower than that. Docs office always jokes that I'll never have to worry about having a stroke. Guess that's a good thing. If you're not having any symptoms or issues with it, then relax and consider it one less thing to worry about.
