Not weightloss related..... anyone experience sinus surgery?

Hi everyone,

My ENT has suggested a minimally invasive FESS surgery to open up my maxillary sinuses, which are anatomically blocked. I also have a slight deviated septum, which I had fixed 20 years ago and it somehow re-deviated. My doc won't fix the deviation, unless he cannot open the maxillary sinus without doing it. BUT, I hated the last surgery, done when I was 18. It was HORRIBLE! My question to you all is has anyone had some sinus surgery done recently? How was the recovery time? Did you have any complications? I'm super worried and scared, but am leaning toward having the procedure. I have facial pain in the nose and eyebrow pretty much daily and sinus headaches at least two times a week. My right max sinus is blocked, and no antibiotics can touch it, so it's still filled with gunk. Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry i had my septum fixed but not the sinuses. I would think that for a week of having the splint up your nose and anything else would be worth it to be able to breath better and not have consistant pain. I wish you the best of luck.

I had sinus surgery to remove diseased tissue in 1998 as well as tubes inserted in my ears and a deviated septum repaired. The worst part was nausea after coming out of recovery which might have just been my experience and something you wouldn't experience. I must have swallowed a lot of blood because despite several different attempts to alleviate the nausea so I could go home, I was admitted (was supposed to be outpatient). Thirty minutes after being settled into my room, I threw up all the blood that was in my stomach and I felt fine after that. I had no pain, just a little discomfort, minimal swelling, and an uneventful recovery. It was uncomfortable to have the packing and I didn't like not being able to breath through my nose and I hate using nasal sprays which are necessary to irrigate and promote healing, but I can honestly say I did not experience any pain. I would do it all again in a heart beat since I had recurring sinus infections, bronchitis and ear infections before the surgery and now I seem to get fewer colds, ear infections (the tubes are long gone), and bronchial issues since the surgery.

Most people have never heard of FESS... but I had that done about 10 years ago. Not SUPER recent, but... I just remember being tired, and recovery wasn't too bad at all. I've never regretting doing it, I used to get sick ALL the time, and now, I average MAYBE once a year.
