so last week I made a post on here about eating at my moms wedding and while I did really well (I had 4 alcoholic drinks, 1 bite of cake, 3/4 of a plate of food of anything I wanted, a snack at midnight and that was it) and I lost 3.2 lbs that week......BUT I DID NOT LET LOOSE.
EVERY.SINGLE.BITE. I had to think about and justify and I only drank the liquor when I was truly thirsty mixed in with my 12 glasses of water.
I know ya'll are probably thinking that it's all great and wonderful but HONESTLY I don't want to always, everyday, all day long, have to think about every thing I eat.
Tonight actually I am going to a birthday party for my favorite cousin and it's going to be a blast, she throw the best parties and my hubby is even going to keep the kids all night so I can stay over there and party all night and have drinks and not have to drive etc. However here I am at breakfast already trying to find a place/justify the hypothetical food/beverages that I haven't eaten or drank yet. AHHHHH HELP!!
Just a little WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
I can eat good all day (I've already got all my meals and snacks till supper planned out and written in my food diary) go to the birthday, nibble on whatever is there but keep portions in check and bring my own 80 calorie alive coolers to drink all night and just "hope" I dont' go over too much.
Or litterally track every bite all night and be good. especially since last weekend I cheated too.
***I AM DOING A MAJOR WORKOUT TODAY.....AS OF RIGHT NOW I ONLY HAVE 415 CALORIES LEFT BUT MY WORKOUT WILL GET ME ABOUT 500 MORE TO USE TONIGHT***
any help is appreciated. thanks.

I used to have the exact same problem... Still kind of working on it, but I think I've found a way to make it not seem so bad: Counting calories is a responsible thing to do, especially when weight loss is needed. Not having fun because of counting calories is NOT responsible- it will only lead to negative thoughts/behaviors. What you should do is think of the days where you "cheat" not as "cheating" days, but as a relaxed day. Do you do this all of the time? No. If you go over your calories once a week *not by thousands mind you, but by a few* but are within your goals for the other days, what is so wrong? Eating healthfully shouldn't take away from fun. Remind yourself that you are a responsible calorie counter, but also that you are fun, vivacious, and beautiful! Make yourself believe you are relaxed by pretending you are relaxed, and maybe then you actually will become relaxed! Have fun tonight, and don't worry! You have come so far!
Best of luck! :flowerforyou:

you know i think u should go to the pool and do laps / swim for fun for an hour it burns 600 cals/hour, and then enjoy ur self, i mean u still need to live ur life and we are going to have those times when we just want to enjoy life . but i would stay away from the drinks that u know are very high in cals, have a half of one or just one and then drink slimmer drinks!0

it make be irksome at first, but you are focused on your weight loss--even subconciously and that's a good thing. the getting used to it part is not, but it will become routine and you won't be so intensely absorbed by it all as time goes on. Successful weight loss involves this very process--you have to think about it and plan your eating campaign since you're in a war against being overweight. you are doing a tremendous job, especially since you are brave enough to put yourself in harm's way, from a diet perspective, at social events!0

Yep in the same boat . I'm going to my father-in-laws 80th B-Day and my sister-in-law is having a taco man there so I'm assuming Mexican food yummmmmmmmmm. I'm screwed. Well there's always tomarrow0

I do the exact same thing. I'm new here, and have never worried about calories before in my life. Now I'm getting a super shock from seeing just how much everything is! Now I think constantly about every bite I put in my mouth. I'm hoping this just becomes second nature at some point and isn't such a focus in life.0

Thanks for the input everyone.......I'm gonna try and do the best that I can, I'm gonna bring my own low calorie alcohol and try and eat only dinner/evening snacks at the party (and I'm praying that there will be a veggie and/or fruit platter) I do want to act like the fun person I used to be but not at the expense of my body/health.
No one will probably notice my small portions or that 1/2 the time I am drinking water and I just gotta do more visiting with the PEOPLE.....not the food.
I'm actually bringing a bouncy castle to the event (I own it) and maybe I should just do most of my visiting while jumping on the thing....that oughta burn a ton of calories!! LOL
Day to day the calorie counting/tracking doesn't bother me and has pretty much become second nature, only during special occasions does it cause me to get anxious, and now with summer here it seems that there are more and more BBQ's and get togethers.
I have specific goals in my mind that I want to reach and it's gonna take some disipline. My very next mini goal is to lose 18.4 lbs by august 28th.0 -
I had this vision of you in the bounce house checking your HRM for calories burned! (We have a MGB commerical in these parts where the guy is on a stationary bike or doign squats for his beer, while his friends drink MGB 64! LOL)
You will get used to it all. For now it is a GOOD thing you are aware of the calories in things. For too long we went through life num num numming on everything in sight, without a care. Where did that lead us??
Enjoy your party in a sensible way. Eat some fattning crap but just a little........drink your water and you will feel better tomorrow than anyone else there!!0 -
