I have a cold, should I work out?

I've got a bit of a cold today, runny nose, sorta dizzy, and a little sick in the stomach. But I've only managed to workout once this week and I feel like I should exercise more.
I am going to work today and I'll be very active there, plus I'll be walking about 1/2 to get to work......will that suffice for today? I rested yesterday when I got done with work and I've been resting today so I should be able to get back at it tomorrow (when I get sick, all I have to do is rest for two days and I feel a lot better)........I want to workout but my parents are suggesting against it lol.
Opinions?

I'm suffering with a cold at the minute and the most I can manage is a brisk walk or 20 minutes on the stationary bike, I'm just too tired and achy for anything else. I'd say just keep as active as you can but don't try to overdo it.0

i find a head cold, stuffed nose clears with a workout. dont worry about contaminating as you are contagious before symptoms exist!
if i am coughing, have muscle pains etc i just rest...
to re-itterate if its above the neck work out...
if its below the neck rest it out!0 -
I've had a cold too. I've pushed through it every day but made sure to get my sleep in. I say do what you feel and if not, rest and get back to 100%0

I really want to, even if it's only for 20 minutes, but I have such a long day of work ahead of me so I'm not sure it would be a bright idea. I just have a problem where I feel really fat and lazy if I don't workout :S0 -

What kind of workout? Be careful working out when dizzy.
I have worked out with an early head cold. I usually feel better for a few hours and then worse afterwards. I am never sure whether I would have felt worse anyway and thus it was a win or if I actually made myself feel worse.
If you have a chest cold, definitely don't work out. I am fairly certain that is known to exacerbate the chest issues.0 -
I read one time that the rule of thumb is that if it's only "in your head" (head congestion, runny nose, sore throat), you're typically ok to exercise, but if it goes below the neck, you should take the day off your workout routine-0

No. It's better to let your body rest and recuperate from being sick. Especially if you use a gym. You don't really want to spread your sickness to anyone else.0

I have a cold and I'm taking this week off. I think mainly do to my 2 year old having it also so I'm extra tired from dealing with him. I can't get "extra" sleep either since I'm always up with him. I try and do as little as possible when I'm sick.
Feel better soon. :flowerforyou:0 -
don't be a wuss. If you can manage it, do it. If you are bed ridden then don't.0

Do you feel like you can do it? If so, go for it. If you don't, don't do it. I got a chest cold about two weeks ago and by doing exercise everyday I was able to shorten it and feel much, much better now.0

No, probably not. It will only make your work out that much more dull and not really have any effect since you're not going all in.
Also, it could lead to myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle. Depending on how severe your could is and what virus you have, too much physical activity could trigger inflammation to any muscle really, but myocarditis is superscary. Trust me, you really don't want that **** to go down.
Be safe, be healthy, go get a blanket and some tea and watch a movie instead.0 -
I was feverish and achy for two days this week and took those two days off. It was hard to take the days off but I knew I would be sicker longer if I didn't. Today I am congested and have more of a sinus thing happening so I am going to go for a run and do strength. Just do what you can but don't overdo it. And don't feel bad if you take a break. You have to listen to your body.0
