Protein powder...whey vs. soy

OK, so I'm really trying to increase my protein intake and just read the protein shake thread. Some great ideas in there! But, here's my question, whey protein powder or soy? It seems like mostly everybody does the whey, and I was just wondering why? Also any other low calorie ideas to increase my protein?

Whey is better. Low calorie source of protein include egg whites, lean meats and fish.

As one of if not the main supplement for athletes and bodybuilders, whey protein is commonly used to accelerate muscle development as well as aid in recovery. Another very popular use of whey protein is when it's incorporated into a person's diet. The reason for this is that a high quality protein has a low fat content, effectively helping people who are trying to maintain or even lose weight. Some studies have even shown that diabetics can benefit from whey protein supplements because they can prevent blood sugar spikes, especially after a high-carbohydrate meal.

I did plenty of research and went with the Isoflex Whey Protein Isolate 0sugar 0fat Cholesterol free and is very popular among women. Hope this helped. :)

Not sure if you considered egg protein powder, but that's what I've been using lately. Not sure why. I used whey protein for 9 months and it worked great. Just like to change things up. Haven't noticed any changes in weight loss.

Sounds hippie-ish but Soy is sketchy to me...unless the **** is on my chicken fried rice lol

whey protein is where its at...remember to compare brands and look for the highest possible amount of protein vs "filler" per scoop.

Sometimes the best ones taste like crap but who cares..WE GOT LBS TO DROP RIGHT?

Costco and Walmart sell good bangs for your buck. I am by no means an exercise guru...Or a heavy lifter or anything. But I use whey to balance my diet with as you can see...great success.

I choose to use whey protein in order to meet my protein needs because I don't want soy protein messing with my hormones like soy has the potential to do. I have a hard enough time keeping my hormones at proper levels without adding that into the mix.

ETA: If you're a meat eater, chicken is supposed to have one of the best protein to volume ratios for non-supplement food.

Whey/Egg - best post workout. For Whey, peoples levels of blood amino acids peak about 1 hour afterwards and return to pre-meal levels by 3-4 hours. Its a quick shot of protein.
Casein - best for non-workout. After you consume casein protein it becomes a solid in your stomach, causing your body to feed off this protein block for the next few hours. This is why casein is also known as a ‘time release’ protein.

You get those, and you're solid.

i've ended up blending whey, soy AND pea proteins together. focusing on one for a while can sometimes lead to food allergies. protein isolates are even better because they aren't loaded down with fats and carbs. i haven't noticed any strange flavors with whey protein, but soy and vegetable proteins tend to be slightly beany and astringent, imho.

You can get protein powders that have a combination of proteins. I used to use dessert protein which had like 3 different kinds of protein in it I think. But I can't have it anymore so I do soy which has been okay. Tried raw protein and it gave me a stomach ache. So not changing a good thing. Most people turn to soy if they have issues with other proteins like me or are also vegetarian or vegan.
