Yikes, I just realized my NET calories have been really low!

I feel so dumb for just realizing this. I try to eat healthy for the most part. Feel free to check my diary it's open. I've lost 16lbs to date and though its still a loss I would see a loss one week I wouldn't see one for the next two weeks. Which caused frustration. I think I finally understand why. I think I was starving myself without noticing and only paying attention to my food intake number. I kept thinking it was my PCOS but at this point I'm just admitting it and blaming myself. From my understanding your calorie goal should match your net to keep on track right? I'm sorry if I'm wrong I'm new to much of this. Anyways I'm aiming to go better. Starting the new month feeling empowered.

Just hoping others don't make the same mistake I made.

As long as your net calories are over 1200, you should be okay. 1200 is the minimum you should be getting a day. Anything under that will be putting your body into starvation mode. So if your goal is 1500 or so and you've only been eating 1300, that's fine.

MFP is set up so that you look at your net calories once you have figured out how many you need to eat (this normally takes into consideration your height, weight, age, and activity level..google bmr & tdee calculator if you still need to figure this part out) ..so you are on the right track now using the net number as your guide and not just the first calorie number :flowerforyou:

I'm not sure why the previous poster siad you should be fine if you are hitting 1200 cals..it is such a arbitrary number that people throw around...not knowing your activity level no one can say if you are fine eating that number.

I've read a lot that eating anything less than 1200 is putting your body into starvation mode. I'm saying that net should be 1200. After exercise and all that. I'm not saying that's how much she SHOULD be having. But that as long as it's over 1200, she's likely not putting her body into starvation mode.

Thanks to you both. I feel confident in the upcoming month. Redid my numbers, focusing more on the right numbers and reinventing my exercise routine. :-)

1200 is not the minimum for everyone..when you take into consideration activity level, exercise, age, current weight ect..even netting 1200 is not going to be okay or for everyone. bad thing don't start to happen at a magical 1200 number for everyone..we are all different!

anyoo...glad the op figured it out!
  • As an exemple, for me 1200 it's starving, my net have to be at 1600, for me it's my minimum, never less than that. My goal fix by mft is 2020.
