Bacon, how much to count

Tonight I'm eating a meal with bacon in it. Bad enough on it's own but it'll be mixed in, with enough exercise I should be fine.

However, it's a piece of about 300gr (10 oz) bacon. Raw. Probably a sixth or so will end up on my plate.

Does that mean I should count 50gr raw bacon?

Because I'm pretty sure once it's all fried up in the pan, there's not going to be 300 grams left as a lot of fat will just be in the pan. But I don't know how much would be left.

Should I count like 50 grams of raw bacon, or like 30 grams of fried bacon? Or.. what do you guys do?

I would just count 50g of raw bacon (plus a little fat if it's being cooked in fat). And stop feeling so bad about it. It's just food. :flowerforyou:

That actually made me smile. There were just such big differences between the both I had to ask. Thanks, though. :)

I eat bacon almost every day and I count it cooked crispy, but if it's "in" something like a sauce, I count it raw.

If you are leaving the rendered fat behind log cooked bacon. If you are using the fat in the recipe (like I like to do) log the raw piece calories.

i eat bacon literally every day. it's good for you. and no i'm not kidding. animal fats aren't the evil they've been made out to be all these years. there are good and bad fats, and bacon falls under the good category.

(except for the nitrates... so mine's nitrate free)

Cool, is there anyway though to estimate the weight after cooking? My mom is cooking so I won't be able to actually weigh it..

There is a Kirkland - Costco - Bacon - Cooked that I use to track. I actually use bacon from pastured animals that comes from a smaller, local abattoir but I'm sure the calories are similar. You can just guess the "pieces" and you wont be TOO far off. I wouldn't sweat it.

    1. Don't call bacon bad.
    2. If pan-frying, then just use the "bacon, pan fried" entry in the database.

Count 50 gm raw bacon...You'll be eating <2 oz of bacon, which is less than 70 calories...

Just enjoy it. Bacon is one of the few things that makes life worth living...

Come to the Netherlands some time. They sell them to chop up into blocks yourself to use in meals.

Sadly the bacon here holds considerably more calories. 50gm bacon alone could contain 250 calories... raw. With my current final calculations I still got to 170 calories for just a bit of bacon..
