Do chin ups hurt your elbows?

I just finished Stage 6 of NROL4W, which is designed to help you do chin ups after finishing it. I have never been able to do one in my life, and now I can do one and a little smidge of a second one. I can do several of them throughout my workout when I try, but never more than one in a row. But my elbows hurt so bad after doing a few. Is that normal, am I doing it wrong or something? I've read the thread on here about how to learn to do them, and I try to use my lat muscles, but I don't know. Also - any tips on how to progress to be able to do more than one in a row?

i was in the same boat as you, i started using an assisted chin machine and got hooked but i found a guy on youtube with decent info called scooby who told me to walk the plank, i`ll let you look for the video to understand,,,
anyhooo i dont get pain in my elbows as such i get pain in my grip - prob due to the 200 or so lbs being held by eight little pinkies!
do you do dumbell curls an lat workouts? perhaps working these in isolation may help as it sounds like your arms are doing the majority of the work
maybe you dont take well to chins? i know that i cant to tricept with dumbells above head with one arm but can blitz them with two arms and load up heavier and also bar dips i can do full body weight at multi reps. perhaps you have found something simliar to this with chins?
as i say i know nothing but try skin the cat in a different way! why not now use the method you have employed with chins to pull ups? perhaps these ay be better for you?

There's pull ups and chin ups. Try doing chin ups. Same thing but your palms grip the bar facing you. It sounds like the tendons are weak. Be careful as you don't want to develop tendonitis. If you're lifting regularly for a workout routine then you may want to try incorporating neutral grip exercises instead of over and under handed ones. Example: Hammer curls instead of concentration curls. Doing skull crushers? Use dumbells with a neutral grip instead. I was heavy on preacher curls and skullcrushers and developed tendonitis. Had to switch to neutral grip exercises for awhile until the pain subsided, which takes weeks because tendons heal so much slower than regular muscle tissue does. Also, I find fish oil helps tremendously! I currently use the Triple Strength Fish Oil 1240's from GNC and take 3 a day. They're half the size of a normal fish oil pill, no fishy burps, and it's 5x filtered to remove bad stuff like mercury. The price is right there with any other good quality fish oil as well. It also helps to have a GNC Gold Card to save 20%.0
