My advice would be to don't give up! Weightloss is never easy! One thing that helps me is I had to learn what foods help me loose weight and what foods add to weight gain. I've also realized that I was eating way to much in one setting. I'm still struggling with weightloss. What I do is set mini-goals. You have time. Start with losing 5 lbs in two weeks. When you reach that goal, then do another goal. Beating yourself up because you didnt loose much is not going to help, but will probably cause you to gain more weight, which is not what you want. When you feel like eating, go for a walk, then eat. Drink a bottle of water first and wait 10 mins, then see if you still feel like eating. Or my favorite, chew gum, that helps sometimes. Stay encouraged, it weightloss were easy, you wouldn't appreciate it in the end!

This may come off harsh, however think you need to hear it or see it. Get tough, you didnt put on that weight overnight and you sure as heck aren't going to take it off overnight. Keep plugging away. You, I and almost everyone else got to be overweight by numerous things and one of those is in your subject line. No need to cry or feel sorry for yourself as it will take time and determination. Keep pluggin away, it works.

How long have you been trying to lose weight? How close are you to goal? And I agree that we could help more if you make your diary public.

Hey hey hey, dont give up! August 24 is still two months away! Thats 9 weeks! is you lose 2 pounds per week that is 18 pounds. If your goal loss is 45 that is just under half of your goal weight. All you have to do is step up your workout and keep very good track of what you eat! If you know you dont need to eat it then dont. If you find yourself on the couch get up and clean or go out for a walk! You CAN do this! We all can. All you have to do is work hard and believe in yourself and you will get there!

I'm a firm believer in the right combinations of what you're eating is just as important as how many calories you're consuming. Meaning, the weeks/days I get in 2-3 servings of veggies per day and 1-2 fruits per day along with at least 8 glasses of water, I lose the best. My advice would be to check how many servings of fruits and veggies you're consuming per day and adjust that as needed. Also, my mom read (on here I believe) that weight loss is not a race, it's a journey and she has it posted numerous places as a reminder.

I'm not sure what you're goal is for August or why you chose that date, but I do know this: by your date, you can either be the same weight you are now, or you can be X amount of pounds closer to your goal. The difference is going to be whether or not you stay the course. Feel free to friend me if you like. Everyone here is very encouraging and it helps having friends here along the way cheering you on and empathizing with you on the bad days. This is life. There will be good days and bad.

They have also said in almost every diet that I have looked at not to weigh yourself for the first month. What you need to do is pay attention to everything you are putting in your mouth. If you want that potato chip, go for it, but that doesn't mean eat the whole bag. Get into the habit of leaving food on your plate. Borrow Paul McKenna's book - I Can Make You Thin- from the library and read it. Very easy reading. Using those techniques as well as being extremely mindful of how much you are eating in a day will start to pay off. Remember, no one gets overweight over night. It's not going to come off overnight either. But whatever you do, don't give up.

I 1000% agree with this! And I've been where you are too... discouraged by so little weight loss. I did give up... and gained back what I'd lose plus more. Now I am keeping in mind that however little I lose, it is a step towards my goal. :) You are welcome to friend me as well! (Also, not sure if this could be going on with you, but last time I lost weight it took me about a month before my body started letting go of the weight... then it came off... slowly... but I did lose weight!)

I looked at a few days.. you have your calories at 1000 a day and you are only eating 600-700, your body is probably in starvation mode.. do some exercise and eat around 1200 cals a day net

Here's a silly question-Are you eating enough? I was trying to stick to 1200 cal a day and didn't move the scale a bit. I read-up on eating my exercise calories on top of my 12oo goal and I lost 1.8 lbs and over 6 inches in a week. You really need to also track your weekend food consumption. It may sound crazy to eat 600 calories over your normal goal but it works, you'll put yourself in starvation mode if you don't. keep up on your logs here and you'll see it decrease.

Sure, go ahead, eat whatever you want and you will end up bigger than you already are and worse than at square one.

Record everything you eat and drink, exercise two or three times per week, if you can walk somewhere instead of driving or catching public transport, do it, that walking could end up losing you a few hundred calories.

Do not weigh yourself more than once per week otherwise you can get discouraged and then become disappointed. Measure yourself regularly, ie your hips, waist, thighs, calfs. Records everything and do not conveniently forget to input some food you are having as all you will be doing will be fooling yourself.

August 24th? That's ages away yet, take it as an opportunity to lose the weight gradually, at least you have not given yourself unrealistic goals and only have a couple of weeks to lose a stone or something - I'm not joking either, I am sure many people have seen such postings asking how the person concerned can lose a large amount of weight in a ridicuously short time.

Are you logging in everything you eat? I see several days with meals missing and several with nothing logged in.

Besides that... I think that it would be helpful if you could fit some more fruit and vegetables in there. If you are going to eat more processed food (broccoli & cheese, etc.) then I would make sure you are getting AT LEAST 8 cups of water a day to flush out some of the sodium.

I'm not sure what you have your goals set at for weight loss, but I'd aim for at least 1300-1400 calories a day -- not counting exercise calories. I didn't look at your exercise diary to see what you are doing there.

Are you logging everything you eat?

Because if you're not, that could very well be your problem and if you are, then that's REALLY your problem.

If you're not, try logging every morsel that goes into your mouth. Also important to note is you're set to eat 1000 cals a day and that's simply not enough food for most folks.

If you are logging everything you eat, holy mother of god you should eat more. I just looked at the last week, but you have several days where you eat under 500-700 calories, several days where you haven't logged anything at all (did you eat nothing those days?), and just 2 days where you ate around 1900 and 1500 calories which are actually the only 2 days I saw that don't honestly concern me. You do NOT have to starve yourself to lose weight. Doing so will seriously work against you in terms of fat loss.

I took a peek at your diary and noticed a few things.

First of all, why is your goal only 1000 calories? 1200 calories is generally the accepted number of what your body needs to function in a healthy way. There are a lot of people on this site that CANNOT lose weight if they eat less than 1200 calories.

Secondly, you seem to have a handful of days where you don't log. Consistency is key on here! You should make it a priority to log on here everyday for every meal. You need to see what you're eating and what its health content is. On this note, I noticed that there are a bunch of days that you don't log dinner. I REALLY hope that this is because you're just not logging and not that you're not eating. Starving yourself is not the way to get healthy!

Finally, on the days that you did log all of your meals, you seemed to be over. BUT since your calorie goal is low, I don't think you're too far over. One of the things I love about this site is the fact that you can earn more calories to eat through exercise! So on days where you want to eat a little bit more, or you want to to treat yourself to some dessert or pizza or something, make SURE you get some exercise in! A lot of times it cancels out and you don't have to feel bad at all.

DON'T GIVE UP. The plan this site uses REALLY WORKS and there are a bunch of people on here who have had success simply by watching what they eat and exercising. It'll work for you if you do it correctly.

some of your diary entries are only 500 and 600 cals that youve eaten in the day. that is crazy and not the rite way to lose weight. track everything and eat at least 1200 cals and exercise and even if the effect is not immediate it does happen and you will slowly notice a pound here, a loose jeans there and its all worth while. it is hard work and i get disillusioned alot too but if ya just try to keep going as best as you can you wil get there. August 24th is still time enought away to lose weight. Commit ! and go for it girl you can do it :)

I looked at your Diary and you are all over the map. First you need get in 1200 cals. a day, anything less and your body thinks it is being starved and builds up fat for protection. Second, be more consistent and update daily so you can keep on track. It's ok to have a bad day but when you miss three it's just that much harder to get back. Third, Exercise and drink plenty of water. The exercise is self explanatory but you nee plenty of water to help you flush your system. The 8 cups of water a day is min. w/out exercise. So if you exercise drink even more than the 8. Finally, give it time. It takes time and every pound loss is great but don't scale watch daily. Only weigh yourself once a week. Good luck!

    First off, don't get discouraged.
Second, have you taken your measurements when you started? Sometimes you don't see a change in weight for a while but you see a change in measurements. Seriously, take your measurements.

Of what I can see from your food diary, is two things: 1. you don't record everything you eat, and 2. you still eat quite a bit of "junk" food.
My advice to you is to start recording your food regularly. Don't get obsessed with it but it will help you keep an eye on it. Little snack etc add up quickly.
The other thing is, cut out the junk food. I love food too. I really really do :) But in order for you to loose weight you have to make some sacrifices in the beginning. It took me two months to not crave chocolate on a regular basis anymore. Wanting to eat junk is only in your head. Really. Your body does not need it and runs much better when you eat healthy. In the beginning I needed a piece of chocolate every day, so I bought Dark chocolate by Dove or Lindt (the good kind) and had a piece or two a day. They are individually wrapped so you are not so tempted to eat the whole bar once it is open. It took care of my craving and now I don't even need it anymore.
Eating a whole Rittersport, taco bell, Doritos...... all those things should not be in your diet whatsoever. I don't say cut out cravings at all; don't because the keep you sane in the beginning but it is about control. Eat one piece of chocolate, make home made chicken burritos or wraps that way you can control the calories, and chips... I would really try to leave them out.

As far as your exercise goes, I think you should increase it a little. It seems you only exercise once or twice per week which is not enough in my opinion.

The beginning is the hardest. You have to get in to the right mindset and then you will get there.

Good luck and I hope I didn't sound too harsh :)

Thanks guys! I really do noeed the tough love. Most of the time when I get home and after I workout I am too tired to cook or eat so I just take a shower and go to bed. I don't log my exercise because I feel like its an excuse to eat if i see the calories but I do exercise 5-6 times a day. Lately I haven't felt like eating. I will increase the caloruies to a minimum of 1200 a day.

At night sometimes, its like I want to fail so I eat more. I am going to do better about logging everything and no more junk.

    THANKS!

don't log my exercise because I feel like its an excuse to eat if i see the calories

I generally eat 75-100% of my exercise calories.

It's not an "excuse" -- it's fuel.
(and just a note, my food diary has been abnormal for the last 1.5 weeks because of my honeymoon & then damage control so if anyone's looking to see if I practice what I preach, they may want to jump back a couple weeks.)

Don't give up! Some weeks I don't even lose a whole pound, but I've lost 42 total so far! I'm with some of the others. You are not eating enough calories. Use the BMR calculator and then plan to eat about 1000 less calories than that a day. Find an exercise you'll DO and keep posting on MFP. We're here to help each other.

You say you're too tired to eat after you work out. Try eating a small box of raisins before your workout for energy, and then a handful of nuts after your workout.

If you really want to jump start weight loss eating only nuts, fruits and vegetables for 3-5 days helps, but the real key is establishing a healthier lifestyle that includes whole grains and lots and lots of vegetables. Go easy on the salt and fruit. Avoid sugar and highly processed foods like the plague. You'll get there IF you keep on keeping on.

Try for one week to eat all "real" foods, I know the bars are supposed to have everything you need for a meal, but when I eat them I loose nothing. Up the proteins, fish, chicken, yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, eggs,etc... try eating a lot more fresh vegetables, and a couple fruits a day. Keep your carbs to whole grain, complex ones, I am convinced the ones in those designer bars are not that great for you. And do not go under 1000 calories a day, that is sabotaging your metabolism. These are all things that I need to do more, the hardest part is that YOU have to prepare these items, but you are worth it. When all else fails exercise! do a "last chance workout" before your weigh in....Move everyday! I have not lost much either, but that has caused be to quit in the past, this time I am going to beat it, by hanging in there, even if it takes years., what other choice is there really....You can succeed!!!
