That sounds like at least a 12-16 month plan.

A clean bulk at 2-300 above maintenance would have you growing while minimizing the amount of fat you put on even though putting on fat is going to be inevitable. Just eat more food. More of whatever you ate when cutting. I have some friends that will eat cake and cookies and stuff but its not for everyone. A .5 lb gain is what you're looking for.

Training is the same as cutting. AllPro, JasonDB Ice cream fitness, Stronglifts 5x5 or Starting strength are all great options.

Don't eat your parents!!! As far as when to eat, do whatever works for you. Whatever works best into your schedule.

I'm not really into supplements so I can say much.

Cut to 11-12% bulk to 18-20 rinse and repeat. Be patient.

Ive never understood the need to cut and bulk endlessly unless you're a professional bodybuilder. If you eat a well balanced diet all the time, just eat around your TDEE and lift heavy. Muscles grow, fat falls off. Yeah it's not fast, but it's sustainable long term vs eat a ton, then at a deficit over and over into eternity.

Cell phone typing so I'm not being thorough:
I'd say a good portion of the above is going to be variable depending on the training experience of the individual but since you're using 20lbs which is a rather lofty goal and not realistic for anyone other than a beginner.

    Eat at a small surplus.
Consume adequate protein and fat for lbm/hormones/etc.
Lift heavy with a progressive loading over time. Compound lifts ideally.

And depending how long it takes (20lbs is a truckload despite what muscle mags would say) you may need to move to a periodized approach.

For supps that depends mainly on diet IMO.

Or just use dat der cell tech.

300 calories over maintenance is a crap ton? A deficit is way below maintenance (you make it sound that way)?

First three words, "You've never understood".. im paraphrasing

I think its crucial to learn to eat at a deficit and a surplus.... Eating over maintenance, without binging and overeating, is an obstacle in itself.

ETA: You're acting as if any caloric surplus is an "anything goes" face fest. I think most would agree that "fulking" (fat bulking... no calorie restrictions) is not a good idea..

ETA: How about I twist your words. It sure sounds as if your advocating a maintenance diet for fat loss... "You'll lose fat and gain muscle, it'll just take longer". Please defend that logic. Its dumb for fat loss and its dumb for mass gains..

ETA: The fact that you cant understand something as simple as, "less than you need= stuff goes away.... more than you need= stuff gets built", is pretty sad. Not to mention, people with poor calorie partitioning will never get anywhere at maintenance..

something like this... might take longer, but, could easily fall within that time frame as well... 20 pounds is a lot of muscle... you'd be rather big...

take it however you will. you're obviously not the type who wants to have discussion but would rather hulk out if someone has a different view than you.

i'd be happy to discuss my views in more detail if you could calm yourself down a bit.

think of it this way. let's say you are traveling from NY to Florida. do you take the fastest route down the east coast? or do you take a flight to Chicago, then to Denver, then to Dallas, then to Miami? you'll get to Florida either way, but one will be faster and easier.

that's what bulking/cutting will do. it will get you there faster and easier than any other method (*).

if getting to the destination is what matters, why take a longer route to that destination?

(*) - keep in mind that it's also not entirely clear that you can actually get the same results with any other methods. most likely, your results will be lesser and take longer if you try to build muscle and burn fat simultaneously while eating at TDEE.

Yeah I don't disagree it gets you there faster, and if the destination IS all that matters to you and you don't mind having to constantly tweak and adjust (who knows, maybe it's good to keep things interesting) - then sure bulking and cutting can be the way to go

As y'all know, I'm not so much about reaching the destination as quickly as possible but as healthily as possible. I hesitated to use that word, because it's so loaded, but I don't mean that bulking/cutting are inherently unhealthy, but many people DO partake in eating a ton of crap food while on a bulk. This is just a difference in dietary philosophy in general so no point arguing this part.

And yes the TDEE method I mentioned is slower (I mentioned that too) but the idea is if you're eating about your maintenance all the time, and focus on lifting heavy and building muscle, by default your body fat will drop in comparison to your LBM, and THEN you don't have to create a fake deficit for yourself at all, because you'll automatically start operating under a minor deficit since the added muscle mass will raise your TDEE while you keep eating the same amount - giving you the "cut" you're looking for.

Again - slower, but more sustainable and less prone to binge eating. But also just an opinion and a different perspective. Both ways work - it just depends what your priorities are.

the troll who started this thread and many others this morning got banned. the mods often delete troll posts and the posts that quote troll posts when cleaning up troll messes. most of this thread seems to have been purged for that reason.
