No matter how healthy I'm eating I'm having a hard time getting my full potassium intake. Can anyone suggest low carb/calorie, high pot. foods?? I'm already taking a multivitamin....

Dannon Light and Fit yougurts. They are 80 calories. I just had the Key Lime flavor and it had 230mg of potassium.

Here's a link to a website listing a whole bunch. A lot are fruits that are a bit higher in carbs, but there are some low-carb veggies that you may not have thought about.

When my grandfather was in the hospital and needed potassium the nurses got talking with us and said that green peppers have more potassium than bananas--and I know green peppers are very low cal. But I have no idea how much potassium is in them and how much you need.

I think fish is also a good source. My doctor stressed to me that is super important to get lots of potassium when you're working out.
  • Great link! Thank you! I wish there was a way I could look at all the calorie/carb alongside the potassium but it'll be easy to look up.
  • i know that seaweed actually has a huge amount in it, haha. but for those of us who prefer perhaps more normal foods, raisins, bananas, sunflower seeds, avocados, mushrooms, endives, and i think squash all have alot of potassium.

Also, you should know that potassium is not a required nutrient on a food nutrition label. Some of your foods may contain them, but companies are not required to put them on the label.
  • Is it true that coffee has potassium?? That'd be awesome cause I drink it like crazy... :) I keep reading different things on websites. I've been eating raisins, tuna, squash, cantelope, yogurt, and mango because they're pretty high. The highest levels are in lima beans though and I.will.not.eat. GROOOSS

Yep, coffee has potassium... we always get people with kidney failure that need to limit potassium to cut back coffee. Instant is actually high in potassium than espresso.
