Climbing out of the rut...

Hi all! Here I am, at attempt #....... (I've lost count) to lose weight. I've done so many different diets, most of which I've lost weight on, but ultimately I put it all back on, plus some. I have 3 kids and have progressively put on weight after each of them. I started clean eating and training for a mini women's triathlon last year during which I lost 8kg, I was the lightest I had been in years! Then Christmas happened, and I stopped training. I put on 3kg after Christmas then from my b'day in Feb until now I have whacked on 5kg. I guess being lazy and having PCOS (and insulin resistance) doesn't mix. Seems like every day is a struggle for me to lose weight and keep it off.

I'm around 105kg at the moment (or about 231 pounds), this is the weight I was before I got pregnant with both my 2nd and 3rd children. I look and feel gross, I hate having to shop in the plus size section of department stores and find nothing that fits in with my personality or age (I'm only 30!).

My plan is to start my clean eating lifestyle again, a lot of plant based foods mixed with lean protein and healthy carbs, while cutting out a lot of processed and sugary foods. I seem to respond well to it, it's my mind who has to learn to keep up and not want to binge on sugary, fat laden 'empty' foods! I know I can do it, I've done it before!

My ultimate goal is to get back to between 65 and 70kg (143 - 154 pounds) I haven't been there for years (OK since I was about 18 or 19), but I know that is my healthiest. It's going to be hard, I know!

If anyone wants to join me in this journey feel free to add me and we can get through it together! I want to say goodbye to at least 35kg (77 pounds) if not slightly more!

I wish you all the best of luck in your weight loss journeys!

xxT

You sound like you've got the right mentality to get into this, so I'd love to support you throughout your journey! I'll send you a friend request now.

(I have to admit, holidays make it hard for me to stay on track too. Thanksgiving dinner? Yes please!)

  • TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME OR IN OUR CASE ONE MEAL AT A TIME. REGARDLESS OF HOW FAR YOU FALL UP JUST KEEP GETTING BACK UP AND START OVER. LOSING WEIGHT AND EATING HEALTHY AFTER YEARS OF ABUSE IS HARD. DON'T LET NO ONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT. I HAVE SOME GOOD DAYS AND SOME BAD DAYS LIKE THIS WEEK I HAVE BEEN CRAVING MCDONALDS CARAMEL SUNDAES AND I ATE ONE A DAY UNTIL I STOPPED CRAVING TODAY. SO I JUST ADJUST MY MIND TO GETTING BACK UP AND THUS FAR I HAVE LOST 16 POUNDS IN 3 MONTHS. SO I TELL MYSELF GOOD JOB. MY GOAL IS TO LOSE 100 POUNDS BY MY 50TH BIRTHDAY IN OCTOBER OF 2014. THAT'S MY OVERALL GOAL. MY FIRST GOAL IS TO WEIGH BELOW 220 AND I DID THAT LAST WEEK. NOW MY NEXT GOAL IS TO WEIGH BELOW 200. SO OFF I GO. ONE THING I DO WHEN I AM CRAVING CHOCOLATE IS TO BUY WEIGHT WATCHERS PRODUCTS AND IT WORKS JUST AS WELL WITH ONLY 80 CALORIES. SO THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR FIGURE OUT WHAT WORKS FOR YOU AND ADJUST YOUR LIFESTYLE TO IT. DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP, UNLESS YOU ARE PATTING YOURSELF ON THE BACK FOR AN ACCOMPLISHMENT. LIKE DRINKING 8 GLASSES OF YUCKY WATER. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE EVERYDAY.
  • Thank you! I feel like I need a cheer squad behind me during these times. I wish I had some one here next to me kicking my butt every time I make a bad food choice or decide not to exercise. I have my husband, but I go quite stubborn when he tells me not to eat something! I think I need to wake my conscience up and tell it and my motivation to come back from their holiday!

It's crazy, I 'know' what I need to do to lose weight. I've been over weight pretty much all my life, except when I was down to my healthiest, so I 'know' what works for me and how I need to achieve it (HARD WORK!) but motivating myself to do it is a whole different kettle of fish. Having said that I know I can motivate myself, because I lost weight AND competed in a mini triathlon! I plan on doing the triathlon again this year (it's not until November) so I have enough time to get fit and healthy before going beating my PB from last year (200m swim, 10km bike, 2km run/jog/walk in 1hr 5min).

    Thanks again! :)
