Calorie question

So I've been eating 1200 cals for a few weeks now and I'm definitely hungry all the time. When I was eating 1400 calories, I was not losing and I started to gain which is why I dropped to 1200. I feel like 1200 is way to low but I gain when I eat anything higher. My metabolism sucks. I lost a pound eating 1200 a week and I followed the same thing this past week ( I even had to do a liquid diet for a day to prep for a colonoscopy) and I lost nothing this week. How do I find a happy medium where I'm not so hungry all the time but I'm not gaining weight? Like I said, I gained weight/ maintained when I ate 1400 a week...and that's sad :(

What are you eating? What exercise are you doing?
I have the slowest metabolism on earth, so I get where you are coming from.
1200 is hard, but the more whole your food is the better off you'll be. Eat crap and you won't be getting all your nutrients no matter how little you're eating.

Ditto to the questions ... what you're eating in addition to your lifestyle (including your work, exercise, how much weight you have to lose, etc.) gives people a better idea of what advice to offer.

And what the above poster said about whole food is so true. When you're calorie restricted it's extremely important to get your nutrients - and natural/whole foods are much better at that than anything processed.

True, natural and whole foods are good for you. You can also try more protein it keeps you fuller longer and try smaller portion of food and don't forget plenty of water :drinker: good luck on your journey.

I do eat whole foods good lean proteins and veggies. I do however lack in exercise and I know that's important. I really do not like my gym in fact I hate it. I have done fitness DVDs I could do at home . I know I need to be more active!

Do you weigh and measure your food? I find that it makes a big difference.

    Hi.
I cant really offer any tips for this as ive only just joined so havent experienced that yet.
BUT you may still be losing inches off your body, eventhough the scales say the same. :)

There are a number of reasons why you didn't lose weight this week (time of the month, etc.) and why you lost 1 pound on 1200 calories last week. You don't mention your height and starting weight. I'd be ecstatic if I lost 1 pound after a week of eating 1200 calories a day, but I'm 4'11. You said you don't exercise - this is KEY!!! I can't sustain a diet on 1200 calories a day so I exercise. That way I can eat more!

oh man I can relate about my metabolic rate being low...had mine tested,,,and the nurse thought the machine was broken so she made me do it again. Im a step about a corpse. bleh
Anyways Ive been eating pretty low calories,,,except today,,,(had 4 slices of bacon and it knocked my calories out of the park)
Can I add you to my friends list? Perhaps we can look at each others food diary. I find myself not hungry, and struggling most days to get all my calories in.

i held an average of about 1250 (net after exercise) for about 2 months. recently, i started getting faint and even had a few blackouts. started adding in some calories (i'm up to 1350 average) and that has helped. if you feel weak or shakey, EAT SOMETHING! you don't want to risk starting some new health issue for yourself. stay a little higher for a few weeks. it takes time for metabolism to kick in. you'll get there!

Exercise will definitely help with the slow metabolism. No excuses for not exercising if you truly want to lose weight.
