My cat, Chairman Meow is morbidly obese. It’s become a real concern so I’ve decided to put him on a diet/fitness regimen. Since my wife is now doing Stronglifts, she no longer needs her 3, 5, and 8 lb dumbbells. So I’ve spent the last few days making little harnesses for CM to wear so he can drag them around. I’ve also clipped his nails so we can do some Bosu ball work. BUT, I need to be able to monitor his calorie burns. Does anyone know if they make a FitBit for animals, and if so, will it sync with MFP?

Well good luck with that... When I put a harness on my cat she just fell over and refused to walk.
I have never heard if they make a fit bit for cats... I've wondered this too... But unless you are referring to a sister website "myfitnesspet" I'd advise against syncing the data to your account... That could really mess up your goals :-P

No, I was going to make a separate account just for CM. I mean...people do it on Facebook all the time.

They sure do. It's called fitpet but you can only buy it one day of the year. April 1st. It's comes in 3 different versions, dog, cat and goldfish.

I've wondered about my cat's tdee. How do you set a weight loss goal for a pet tho... Even 1/2 a week is possibly dangerous on a 20 lb cat, no? How many calories do cats need a day?

I've heard that putting a cat outside during the day so they can run around does wonders for their physique....

I would think the standard 1200 calories would do. It's what I started CM at.

I haven't heard of a fitbit for animals. Can you not attach a regular fitbit to his collar? I would think that would work just the same. Just don't turn on the sleep monitor, you know how much they sleep.

I believe that this is plausable, as the mice running around will give you all exercise. I know I would jump on and off the table everytime the mouse ran through the kitchen.

To respond to the OP, there is a new fitbit bracelet out, couldn't you fit that as a collar?

My ferret has a pink 1lb dumbbell that she laboriously drags around the house (serious, not April fools).

She's probably the only one who has ever gotten a workout from one of those..

I could try that I guess. I just didn't know if they were somehow designed to track people calories, or how that might be different in pet calories. You know, like the whole human years/dog years thing?

How many calories are in a mouse? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose if they're good at mousing?
