I recently moved and got a cat and I'm really excited! I know that with a cat, I will finally have the motivation I need to lose the rest of this weight!

Kitty's name is Souffle. I am trying hard to bond with Souffle, and so far I have:

-taken her on walks
-gotten a booster seat for her to eat at the table (I live alone and it's nice to have company)
-watched a movie together
-Introduced her to my friends and family
-slept with her

I want to know if anyone can help me learn what cats mean when they make certain faces. I'd love it if me and Souffle could get even closer than we are now! For instance, what is she thinking in my profile photo? My guess would be "Can I take a nap now?" but like I said, I am new to this. Thanks in advance for your support!

I think she's about to pounce on your face and ask for more love and attention (and treats....cats can't get enough treats)

This is awesome! I definitely know this means the cat wants to go for a run. Any other ideas?

I bet she's wondering if the reason you named her Soufflé is because you plan to eventually stick her in the oven for 35 minutes, and if so will that be long enough for her to rise.

Check the ears. Laid back - angry kitteh. Perked straight up - curious kitty. Being so covered in fur and not having movable eyebrows, a lot of the subtle non-verbal human language that we've come to depend on is rather useless.

Long enough for her to rise?

    A. I think that's supposed to be three days.

    B. Easter was yesterday.

Perhaps she's thinking that things are moving a little fast. I can understand meeting the family and sleeping together immediately, but the booster seat at the table may be freaking her out a little. She's clearly a cautious kitty and wants things to move a little slower.

This is a really good point. I tend to jump into things a little too quickly, but maybe I should be learning things from my cat.

Perhaps we should go to counseling. Catples therapy, if you will?

I always assume that my cat is out to get me.

Even when he's purring, I'm cautious. It only takes a split second for them to change their mind and decide they want to murder you.

You know that what she is really thinking about how to hasten your demise. Cat's are evil souless creatures who want nothing more but to destroy use. She'll probably try to sabotage your diet.

I want to be beautiful for my kitty! She is the opposite of sabotage.

    Hey there fellow animal lover.

Congrats to you and Souffle for finding eachother! :flowerforyou:

I used to have a cat (I currently am a dog owner after an unfortunate accident that I won't get into) so I believe I can help you on a few things.

1)Taking her on walks. You need to let the cat walk YOU. The cat wears the collar but it leads you. DON'T pull on on the cat or yell at it. It can do irreversible damage to the cats self esteem.

    2) The seat- The seat must ALWAYS be higher than you at the table. The cat must be made to feel like your superior while it eats.

    3) Films- Make sure they are Disney films preferably not about dogs. Only films about cats. Or Rom Coms or Greys Anatomy. Cat's LOVE Greys Anatomy.

    4) Introduction to friends and family- This can be a delicate issue. Make sure you introduce people to your cat on your cat's territory. This will allow the cat to feel more comfortable and superior. Also make sure they give the cat fish or another kind of snack. The cat most always be made to feel desired.

    5) Sleeping with the cat- Cats like to touch soft, squishy things. Allow the cat to fondle your breasts.

As far as faces go there are a few distiinct ones

    Face 1

This is the face that says I'm happy.

Incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for this response, and I'm sorry to hear about your cat passing.

Your response was very well thought out. Just a few questions.

    1. When walking with my cat, if the cat decides to walk through bushes or other people's yards, should I let her and just follow her?

    2. Is there a number of people that cats feel most comfortable around, for instance, if I hold a birthday party for her next month?

    3. Does the face in my profile pic look like a kitty who prefers sleeping alone or sleeping with people?

    1. Follow her. She likes playing "Follow-the-Leader"
    2. Ask her to invite her own friends. You can have your house filled to the brim with her furbuddies!
    3. Hard to tell. How good is she at snuggling?

    No problem!

Always happy to help out a fellow animal lover!

    1) Follow the cat. It may seem awkward at first going through other peoples bushes and yards but after a while your neighbors will understand. Just do your best to explain that you're not the one leading and that the cat has decided to go into their yard. It wasn't your decision, There is one exception to this rule. If a dog starts chasing a cat. Make sure you pick the cat up and bark at the offending dog. THAT is the only time you take control over the cat.

    2) It depends on the cat. Most prefer from about 1 to 7 people. Any more than that they get bit skittish. Also, cat's aren't HUGE birthday fans. To a cat everyday is it's birthday and they just fine the whole process unnecessary and extraneous.

    3) That face is a people cat. Probably multiple people.
  • She wants to be a show cat, she knows she's hot ****.... and she's remembering how good that tape worm was on her figure...... she also wants vegetarian chow because that neighbor cat with arthritis eats it and he is sooooo posh.
