Hi all,
I am a 40 year old female who had a minor heart attack last week. This was very scary and totally sureal.
I now know that I need to totally change my life but I am still at the freaked out stage. Does anyone have any advice on how to move on?
Thanks

I'm sorry to hear that you had a heart attack!
I would advise you to speak to your doctor or a nutritionist..
Make small healthy changes as often as you can.
Good luck!0 -
By doing all you can do now for your health, and not stressing or focussing on this event, if possible, as that will just create more problems. Hard to do, I know, but focus on the positives. It was a minor attack, you are still here, and you have the chance to make the changes needed to try and prevent this happening again.0

I hear you. Me, too. On the floor of my office. Moving on is really tough I don't think I slept for a week.. It was tough on the family too. For me, the only thing that helped was careful examination of myself and how willing I was to own my health. My kids begged me to "be good". So becoming accountable DAILY. I did the work, exercise, diet, close monitoring by cardiologist. It got better and the panic over time reduced. I just figured I wanted to live and do it well... Hope this helped. Regards0

I haven't had a heart attack, but I have had a blood clot that spanned the length of my whole leg and was hospitalized for a week. When it comes to circulatory injuries it can be very frightening. I had a horrible time sleeping while in the hospital because I was worried I wouldn't wake back up. Surround yourself with friends and loved ones. My injury ended up making me depressed and I isolated myself, and it didn't help me get out of my head any faster. If you don't want to talk about it, you don't have to tell them, but it's good to have distractions until you can learn to cope with it. For me it really damaged my sense of identity and was a huge wake up call that life is fragile, which was hard to swallow at 18. I will warn you that some of your friends and family may not be able to empathize with what's going on, and that's okay.
Over the last several years I've been able to learn to cope with my new sense of identity and I'm starting to get my health back in order. It wasn't really bad when I first was injured, but I really let myself go after my injury.
I hope you're feeling better.0 -
I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago, so I have some idea of what you're feeling. I was VERY scared at the time, and found it difficult to deal with. I don't know what support you have available, but make the most of anything you're offered - cardiac rehab, cardiac nurses, medical support, support groups, etc. I didn't qualify for cardiac rehab but would have loved to have it. I agree with the poster above that there can be a tendency to isolate yourself, and that's not a good thing, and that other people (who haven't been through it) won't always understand. A week is still very early days. I would say that things have got better and better for me as time has gone on, both mentally and physically.
There is a group here for heart attack survivors, but it's quite quiet. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/3800-heart-attack-survivors . Do feel free to add me if you like. I hope you recover well.0 -
I haven't had a heart attack but this Dr. has. He takes Lysine and large doses of Vitamin C to repair his arteries. Look up Medi-C Plus. I take it twice daily for my heart health. And no, I am not affiliated with him or this product in any way.0

I am 43 and fairly healthy and had a stress induced cardiomyopathy in January. Basically that is a stress induced heart attack. My heart is completely healthy with no blockage and no damage. But it has changed me completely. It was so scary! This is what made me move on to better health for life. The recovery and getting my strength back took a few months but I am only putting in my mouth what I consider healthy and clean. My episode reminded me that I am in complete control of my health. While things may happen to me that land me in the hospital, it won't be because I didn't try. Take one day at a time and realize that each day can make a difference to your health. I was scared for a few months but now I am not, I am in control and I feel healthy again. I can't see myself slipping again. Good luck to you! :flowerforyou:0
