i was told that you do burn more calories through the day using weights than you do just by doing cardio...I have tried this today as frustrated with cardio and not getting anywhere and I get bored so I did 20mins cardio and went down and did weight's must say I enjoyed my gym session today :)

I wouldn't call that a necessarily accurate statement. All that's needed to lose weight is a calorie deficit. Depends on what kind of weight you want to lose. If you want it to be primarily fat, then weight training is essential to preserve lean muscle mass. Both weight training and cardio help with calories deficit and both have different but beneficial effects on health.

Hi! Your workout routine should have a combination of both. Strength training builds muscle which in turn burns fat which will enable you to shred your body. On the flip side HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) will also be beneficial in kickstarting your metabolism into high gear allowing you to lose those unwanted pounds. During Cardio you need to raise your Heart rate and get within your training zone to be effective. Everyone is different as far as what they find works for them. If you get bored with what you are doing at the gym and want to workout there and not at home I would recommend looking into their cardio classes such as spinning, kickboxing, etc. If you want a program to use at home I could recommend something for you. Hope this helps. Take care!

It shouldn't be either/or. Your body needs both.

A calorie deficit will cause you to lose weight. You can do that with diet alone, or with a combination of diet and exercise.

If you choose to incorporate exercise, cardio and strength training are both good, but the affect the body differently. Cardio is a great way to help you maintain a deficit if your eating habits aren't where they should be, so in that regard cardio can help you lose more weight. Weights will help hold on to the muscle you already have, so more of the weight you lose will be from fat.

And on a side note, both have tremendous overall benefits aside from simple weight loss.

Agreed. As stated, weight lifting can preserve lean body mass, and the higher your LBM, the more calories you burn at rest. So in theory, it will overall lead to a higher calorie burn even when not actively exercising. But as stated, you still need to be eating at a deficit, and both ways can get you to your goal. Usually a mix of both is recommended as they have different "side benefits" (cardio is good for improving cardiovascular health).
