30 Day Shred - what I've learned so far (add yours!)

1. Wear sneakers. Don't do it in your bare feet.

2. Take rest days. I started mine after doing the workout 9 days straight and I do better, feel stronger, and the scale drops when I take a day off every 4 days or so.

3. Go ahead and modify the moves if you need to. For example, in level 2, circuit 3, that last plank move? I could "do" it but I wasn't really coordinated to get the right movement ... I adjusted by doing the plank move leaning against a wall instead and VOILA I could feel the ab muscles she wanted me to work, while still getting the shoulder workout in there too. If you have bad knees, don't go crazy jumping around. If she is doing the double jumprope move, just do the boxing move (or jumping jacks or the twist) instead. Just keep moving.

4. You can turn off her voice in the main menu options :) You still get the 80s wonky porn like "exercise" music, but you don't hear her annoying commentary. This was perfect for me once I learned the routines.

And yes, you can curse at her and call her names. If you do the work, you'll get the results.

I am on day 7 of level 1. I was wondering the same thing, do you take breaks or go for 30 days?!

She says that she has 400 lb people doing jumping jacks.
My answer to her is - just because you can do a jumping jack, doesn't mean you should. - they hurt, my heart rate goes up if I do a low impact version, and I still burn calories while not destroying my knees.

That I got really bored and never made it past day 6, level 2.

And that when I refer to "Satan" my family knows who I am talking about. :)

I learned that you should always listen to your body when it starts to hurt, because I literally shredded my knees and have done some semi-permanent damage. I had to take a month of exercising and starting to find out what I can do now, but I could not even climb a flight of stairs.

I expected fast results and I got some fast results: unable to normally get around.
So.. it was not for me!

    1. drink water before and after the work out

    2. don't worry about speed when you begin just focus on the movements
    3. do it in the mornings I find its easier for me to do it
    4. take it one day at a time one step at a time
    5. don't have unrealistic expectations and don't beat yourself up if you only make it for a few minuets . just keep trying.

Level 1 has three "circuits." Do all three. Do it for 10 workouts (not necessarily 10 days in a row. And if by day 8 you are bored and can do it, go ahead and move on to Level 2).

    good luck!

I thought breaks were "wrong" but for me, they are RIGHT! Take a rest day. Go for a walk or take a class or just go ahead and take the whole entire day OFF. It's okay. I promise she won't come into your home and hurt you for it. ;)

I'm on Day 3. It's harder than I thought it would be (and I do circuit training at the gym).

I agree about the drinking water tip - I had to pause the DVD halfway the last 2 days and run to the kitchen to have a drink!

Jillian herself said that you should take rest-days in a podcast. Do a search here on the message-boards, there is a lot of good information!

I get bored easily with her voice. So I put her on mute, put in Netflix and workout while watching something. And I hurl every insult I know at her.

Agreed that even though 400 lb people can do jumping jacks, sometimes it hurts the knees of some 130 lb people. Don't feel bad if you have to modify an exercise.

especially since she only does about half the exercises herself while yelling at poor Natalie when Natalie cheats.

Thanks for the info. I will be starting day 2 today, and I want to do it every other day, bc I'm already doing the BBL 6 days a week. How effective do you think the 30DS is?

Cursing at her burns extra calories.

No I doesn't, BUT I CURSE AT HER ANYWAY!

I'll tell you at the end, ha ha!

I feel stronger and I've lost back fat. My arms look more toned and I have more endurance.

i definitely don't like sweating this much! Today will be day 2 of level 3, and I'm ready to be done! I felt compelled to complete it all in 30 days, but life gets in the way sometimes, and you can't fit it all into a 30 day time frame. I've learned to be ok with that.
