Can't walk, how can I burn?

So, a week ago I had surgery on not one, but BOTH feet. I can hobble from spot to spot, but what I can do for the next 5-8 weeks will be VERY limited... Any suggestions on how I can get a little burn in during my healing? I can only sit on the couch for so long before I will once again become one with it.

Shadow box with weights, It jack my Heart rate up to 150 in 5-10 mins.I vary between 3,5 ,10, 15lbs.
Hope it helps0 -
Sit in a chair, take some light and heavy weights. Do curls, lifts, presses, kickbacks, raises, etc.0

Will you be doing PT? That would be enough of a burn while you heal.0

Swim or water aerobics?0

Learn to juggle? Useful if you have a dog to fetch the balls that you inevitably drop. But more fun than shadow boxing. And you can use the balls as missiles to ensure compliance with your wishes whilst relying on family to look after you.0

Do chair exercises with weights. There are dvd's on the subject as well as TV. TV=Sit and Be Fit. Look it up.
Go luck!0 -
Air bicycle?
You know where you lie on your back and kick your legs in the air.0 -
I'm in a boot for a fractured fibula -- I do all my lifts still at crossfit from my knees and I still do pull-ups, hand-stand push ups - ab mat sit-ups
I do power cleans
benches
KB floor presses
push ups
snatches
strict press0 -

You're a nut. But the absolute best kind. Way to bring it Hell's Bells!0 -
These are awesome ideas! Thanks!
Since I can't stand for long periods of time and can't get my feet wet for another 2 weeks thanks to stitches some of these great ideas are out, but I may be able to work the others in and end up looking like Popeye with awesome upper body strength and an unmatched and awesome ability to juggle!
(Sorry about the fractured fibula, Abells - after watching the video of that basketball player the other day - OUCH! That makes my minor surgery seem inconsequential!! I wish you a speedy recovery!)0 -
If you have access to a gym, use an arm cycle. Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery!0

Have you got a wheel chair?
If not, the local red cross might be able to provide you with one (they did in the UK for a friend of mine.)
Then you can get exercise with your arms and get yourself around too.0 -
Rosemary Conley does a keep fit video that has a 20 minute section for people with reduced mobility and it is excellent - you get sweaty just sitting on a chair. Go to Youtube and type in chair based aerobic activity - lots of free videos.0

Just do this.

The best solution would be to discuss this with your doctor to develop an exercise routine that will yield the best calorie burn without negatively affecting your recovery.0

Hi, I'm partially disabled and have mobility issues per walking and running. I have found that most anything can be done from a chair as has been mentioned. I will add that I "run" in place in my chair in that I will take a couple of light dumbbells and sit in my office chair and swing my arms like I am running. Add to that hi rep flies, curls, rowing motion, etc. I will ditch the weights and do all that with extreem speed reps. I wear an HRM and normally get my HR up to 130+ and now can go for an hour at a time. I also will air box just about any aerobic movement for the upper body.
Combine that with weights as others have mentioned and it can be had. If you Google "exercise for the disabled", you will find plenty of opportunities. As time goes on, any form of water exercises such as swimming would be great as your weight will be displaced by the water and take the pressure off your feet. And finally, I do have feet issues as well and on my "good" days, I hit the recumbent bike. I try to burn about 400-800 calories 5 days a week.
Somedays it sucks and my bod just won't cooperate...but there is always another day. It is what it is and I have learned to be thankful what I can do and focus on that rather than moan and complain about the cards I've been dealt. I wish you the best!0 -
You can always go rock climbing.
Some indoor gyms have special facilities for wheelchair climbers.
