Trying to deal.

I had blood work done a few weeks ago. My doctor checks my thyroid levels every few months to make sure they are within range because I have hypothyroidism. This is something I've had since I was 16. This time, she decided to do a complete blood check with glucose and all. Turns out, I tested positive for pre-diabetes. So, since she gave me that news I've been trying to eat things that don't contain much sugar....I'm finding this to be very difficult seeing as I love fruit and yogurt (the yogurt I love has 26 gms of sugar...i wanted to die)! I don't really eat candy or chocolate. My will power is in control as far as those cravings go. It took me about 1 1/2 hours at Walmart on Sunday to grocery shop, looking at all the labels, and trying to decide what I can and can't have. Surprisingly, a lot of things I buy don't contain a lot of sugar, but other things do. Diabetes is something I never wanted to be told I have. I dreaded this day would come for a long time. I know with weight loss, it will go away...it just makes me so mad that I let it go this far. If anyone can offer up low sugar food tips or other advice, they would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry to hear about your results. I know it's tough because back in March, I was told I'm Diabetic. I promise, it's not the end of the world and it can be controlled. In your case, being pre-Diabetic, you can hopefully keep from it turning to that.

In April, I had to attend 5 classes on Diabetes. First, let me tell you (and anyone else), Diabetes isn't caused from eating too much candy. Nor, does it mean you can never have candy again. Second, you don't have to avoid sugar. It's just a matter of planning meals and snacks. Some might disagree with what I'm about to say, but I can tell you this...I'm off all my Diabetic and pre-Diabetic meds!!
This is what I was taught...5-6 meals a day, spaced fairly even. For meals, about 45-60 grams of carbs. Snacks, 15 grams or less. You should talk to your dr. to find out what she recommends for your total.

If you want to add me, please feel free. :) Keep your head up and you've got a great support system here!! :)

Hi, when my husband and I started on our weight loss journey, he had type 2 diabetes and was on medication. He began to work out and eat right and now he he is off of his medications and is not concidered diabetic anymore. We started buying low sugar yogurt, cereal that has less than 6g of sugar per serving, we cut out white carbs and stick to fruit like green apples that are lower in sugar. We eat lots of veggies and lean protein.
This site has helped us so much, keeping track of exactly what we are putting into our bodies.

Good luck, I am sure that you are going to do great!!

good advice & great success stories....

Again, type II & pre-diabetes does not mean you cannot eat sugar. Unfortunately it does (usually) mean one's weight is the significant factor...belly fat is the greatest indicator to such a diagnosis.

Drop the weight and eat well, and you'll probably see a great turn around.

    We're cheering you on....
