New Mom Motivation

Hi All! I am a new mom of a 7 month old... While pregnant I gained a whopping 40 pounds and while 7 months later I am 30 pounds lighter-- I am surely not where I want to be... so I have decided to JUST GET OFF MY BUTT and MAKE IT HAPPEN! No more excuses. The good thing is-- I already enjoy most healthy food- veggies, fish, etc... but it is the not so healthy crap that I dread not being able to eat! BUT I am trying to focus on the positives here.. lol... feeling & looking great by the summer time, more energy to play with my daughter... and just to overall be healthier... Any other new moms out there have any tips that they are using to stay motivated!

Hi!! I'm a first-time mom to a lovely 3 month old girl. I gained 28lbs with my pregnancy and resulted in an emergency c-section. Trying now to lose the final 20 i gained plus 10 more so i can be the size 8 i was when i first met my hubby.
    We can do this together!

You can't go into this telling yourself that you can never eat the not-so-healthy crap. It's about changing how you eat, making healthier choices most of the time, so that once in a while, you can indulge a craving without going overboard or reverting to bad eating habits. With the right mind-set, you will find yourself craving the bad stuff less, and when you do enjoy that piece of cake or whatever, you savor it without guilt and move on with your healthy lifestyle. Also, don't focus on what you're taking out, focus on what you're ADDING to your diet: adding fruits and vegetables, adding lean protein, adding healthy fats. The more healthy stuff you add, the less you crave other stuff...'cause you're too full already!

Use your kids as your motivation! They deserve to grow up knowing that healthy eating habits and exercise are the norm.

My girls are ages 4 and 13 months. I'm at my goal weight, but not my goal shape :) My 4 year old loves to watch us exercise and asks us every day if we're going to work out (DH and I work out together). She even does it with us, it's the cutest thing ever!

I know that I could serve my kids healthy foods and talk to them about eating well and exercising until I'm blue in the face, but it just doesn't mean as much if I'm not walking the walk (literally!).

As for what works for me - it's been a long road. When I was younger and wanted to lose weight, I'd simply cut out snacks or make a few better choices and the weight would melt off. Lo and behold I had my first child and was hanging on to an extra 15 pounds that wouldn't budge. I found MFP and realized that most likely I was eating too little before. I got the weight off in a healthy way (netting around 1300 calories). I promptly got pregnant again (I was determined not to start my second pregnancy heavier than I started my first so this was on purpose). The second time around, I gained less and lost it faster. Now I'm trying to reduce my body fat percentage, which is totally new to me. I'm following IPOARM and trying to stick with it. Somehow my body wants to eat more or less, but not in the middle.
