I'm considering getting cottage cheese to mix with fruit for a snack during the day.
What kind do you use and what kind of fruit do you mix with it? I have never bought it before.....

Frozen fruit of any kind, or reduced sugar jam from Trader Joe's!
  • For me, it tastes weird when I add in fruit. I like to eat it plain!

I use the generic store brand fat-free small curd; I usually mix it with pears, but it is really good with tropical fruits as well. It is also pretty good with a pepper sprinkled on it. I buy the variety pepper grinder from Kroger and have fresh ground pepper and cottage cheese as a snack sometimes.

What kind do you use? Do you get fat free? Or 1%? Or 4%?

Nothing for me, please. I like it plain, large curd. fat free just sounds nasty, like it would have a weird tang to it. blegh.

Not a fruit but avocado! I put cottage cheese on my salad instead of dressing and cheese. I also like to eat it on toast, crunchy and creamy.

I buy the Michigan Small Curd brand. I mix it with pineapple, dip wheat thins in it, put it on salads, or mix it with cucumber and salt and pepper!

I purchase the 1% milkfat, small curd. I don't like the texture of large curd.
I mix a variety of things in it. Here are some of them: any fresh berry type fruit, fresh peaches, pears, some melons, canned peaches in lite syrup, salsa, fresh warm applesauce with cinnamon - yum, (my skinny version of apple pie ala mode), fresh rhubarb sauce.
    Good luck!

Some stores sell a single serving of cottage cheese with a fruit sauce with it. Don't know the nutrition value, but it might be a good way to taste cottage cheese.:ohwell:

Fresh fruit, especially pineapple or strawberries.

Dried fruits, especially dried cherries with toasted almonds and a dash of cinnamon.

Tomatoes, fresh basil, a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar, salt & pepper (cottage cheese caprese)

    PB2 and banana

I love cottage cheese – not much you can't do with it IMO.

    berries or hot sauce. yum.
  • Pears or pineapple, if I mix fruit with it. But my favorite way to eat it is with chopped tomatoes, avocado, chives, & pepper.

Do you do this before cooking the eggs or after?

I can not eat cottage cheese, I can not get past the texture. BUT, I know it's a great protein source, so if I can find a way to get it into my diet, I will~!!

I mix 1/4 cup of it with a ripe avocado and mush it all together. I also really like it with apples, melons, and peaches!
