Not Eating Enough....

If someone eats under 1000 calories a day for a long time then eats a big mac or something similar 3 days in a row for lunch, as well as a healthy breakfast and dinner, will they gain weight, or lose more because their body is no longer in starvation mode? And what if after those 3 days they went back to under 1000 calories a day?

Not sure if they would lose weight as our bodies need at least 1200 calories - and that is with no exercise. I have to remind myself that "skinny" people eat 5-6 small meals a day. I am really bad at eating in the morning but have improved. I don't recommend 1000 calories a day because I do believe, by experience, that you will not lost weight because your body is "saving" for the next starvation day. The Big Macs count towards calories - and fat, salt, etc. for the day but they do not carry over. Good Luck!

My gyno says that women actually need about 1500 calories a day for proper body function. I definitely wouldn't drop below the magic 1200 number, though!
  • I don't mean to scare you, but for a long time I was only eating around 700 calories a day in my early teens and over-exercising like crazy. I lost weight like crazy, left and right---it seemed great, until I lost my menstrual cycle and was weak and angry and sick all the time, As I got older, my body changed and anything I ate made me gain weight because I'd slowed my metabolism down so much by not eating enough. Your body needs at LEAST 1200 calories a day, or it goes into starvation mode and will hold on to fat that will quickly cause you to gain weight later. I gained the 20 pounds I lost plus some throughout high school. Then, I got on a healthy diet that boosted my metabolism (I eat 6 times a day 12-1500 calories), learned some patience and realized self abuse and self control are not the same thing. And I look great-I'm happy. I cannot stress the importance of feeding your body even though it's so tempting to keep eating such few calories to lose weight; but it's so important!
