What to wear to a formal sweet sixteen?

My cousin is having her sweet 16 in a couple weeks, and her parents are going all out. They're renting out a club, hired a dj, and are going to have a chocolate fountain and all sorts of other stuff. The dress code is formal and I was wondering what you guys thought of this dress for the occasion. I think it might be too much, but I'm not sure. I don't have a pair of heels to wear with it yet and I could use some suggestions for those too. What would you wear to a formal sweet sixteen party?

edit: to clarify, this is the dress I'm considering wearing to her party- not her dress. and it is very red, just the quality of the pic makes it look a bit orange...

@blondie - she looks very mature for sixteen. I have a niece who wore a similar dress. check the tag, many don't allow dry cleaning or machine wash. Expensive and delicate materials.

Are you asking what you as a guest should wear or what your 16 year old cousin should wear?

Personally, I'm not a fan of that dress either way.

ETA: I would just take formal to mean wear a nice, appropriate but still attractive dress. And by nice dress, I mean not something you'd wear to a club or something.

The answer to the shoe question is classic nude heels.

The dress looks okay, but I think it's a little more 'cocktail' or 'clubbin' than 'formal'

I think you look hot. Don't know if that's exactly the input you were looking for, but still.

thanks all for your input. I got some nude sparkly heels to wear with, and a black cardigan shrug like the one in this pic
