Ok, so when I go to the gym, I feel fabulous (getting there, is a whole different story). I typically do 30min on the eliptical, 30-45 minutes of weights and then 30 minutes at a 3.0 mile on the treadmill. However, the next day I am dead to the world exhausted. Do people of different refractory periods or am I just over doing it?? Every other day is perfect for me to do, but I get so discouraged because I feel so lousy the next day!

Are you doing the same workout everytime you go? Try swimming or water aerobics. You get the same effects as if you are doing the workout that you are doing now. I do laps in the pool everyday with a boogie board and flippers for about 2 to 3 hours and i burn 1949 cals and when i take water aerobics i burn 335 cals and i take that class 5 days a week so i am in the pool 6 days week. and the water is not as hard on your body. Try it and see if that helps. good luck with your weight loss.

Are you taking a daily vitamin? I was having a tendency to feel absolutely smashed after a workout, and complaining to my doctor about it. I begged her to do blood work. She didn't think anything would come up, but obliged me the favor. Turns out, my iron was super low. I got on a prenatal vitamin, and have been feeling like a million bucks ever since!

Another thing to try is to eat a good source of protein within 1/2 an hour of completing your exercise. That should help too :)

Worse comes to worst, a nap never hurt any healthy person ;)

Trust me, I would love to swim, but I am from a TINY town that doesn't have a pool at my disposal. So you will have to do a few laps for me! lol But thank you for the advice.

A multi vitamin might be the answer!!!! WHy didn't I ever think of that???!!!!!

Are you consuming a recovery meal? Generally you want to eat something in the 100-200 calorie range with a mixture of protein and carbs within 30-60 min. of a hard workout.

Some studies suggest that a 3:1 or 4:1 carb to protein ratio is a good one but no one has actually done the studies to determine the optimal ratio so I just eat something and don't worry about it.

On days when I can't eat right after, I drink an engineered recovery drink. The one I use is called Fluid Recovery Drink. Chocolate milk (made with skim or 2% milk) is also supposed to be a good recovery food. But it's not practical for me to carry it around and, besides, I'm lactose intolerant.

It sounds like the problem may be that you are not fueling and refueling your body properly. M,W,F I work out about 3 hours and T, Th, Sat 1.5 -2 hrs and feel just fine. You may want to look into getting yourself some sort of carb/protien blend supplement. Accelerade is a great example. I love the fruity flavors. I will usually drink one serving about 1.5 hours into my workout on the longer days. Also, what you consume immediately after is crucial as well. You may want to read up on proper fueling for endurance type events. there is a lot of usefully literature out there. I'm guessing you are feeling so crappy the next day because you are really taxing your body.
