Hi there. I have ben asked out for lunch with (skinny) friends and although I want to enjoy my lunch, I dont want to regret making unhealthy choices. Im not particularly fussy but I dont like salads unless I make them myself. Its a bar/pub type of place for lunch (not sure if the type of food served in the US is the same as UK) but it's menu is sandwiches, burgers, fish and chips etc. Any suggestions for a starter and main? Not going to have a dessert (I'm sweet enough already!)

Thanks

It really depends on the place with pubs. Some are really accommodating and actually have a lot of choice, others have only a few fried-type options and that's it. Don't be afraid to ask if you can substitute something for example they might be able to serve a main with boiled potato and veg rather than chips or make you a sandwich with mayo or other creamy things on the side or leave out cheese or margarine or whatever you are will to cut from your meal.
  • Thanks Lilmissy, think im going to have a cajun chicken ciabatta and share some chips :) fingers crossed I can behave myself!

Hey! If its like a wetherspoons, then order the spicy tomato pasta, it's like 200 calories, that'll be a good main, then for a starter, maybe ask for prawn cocktail without the sauce. That'll significantly lower the calorie and fat.
