North Korea vs USA

  • My thoughts are that the regime in DPRK is going to collapse within my lifetime. It'll be chaos, but I can't wait until that happens. The United States has a policy toward North Korea which in my opinion, is not working. I'm not sure that sanctions and sit-down talks have really been effective. The government of the DPRK knows that all they have to do is start making threats and the US will come back to the table to work out some bargain. At some point a policy of totally and completely ignoring what the DPRK wants and refusing to talk with them yet maintaining the sanctions will have to be implemented.

The government of South Korea has started to be more hard-line with the DPRK. Previous administrations were softer and wanted to negotiate. South Korea will bear the brunt of any attack from the DPRK, however I think most of the political organizations there are just tired of it. There has been talk of recalling all South Korean workers out of North Korea.

The weaponry of the DPRK are mostly out of date. The have limited air force capability and most of their flight crews hardly get any actual flight time. Some air force intelligence analysts have concluded that most of their flying equipment is out of service due to a lack of spare parts and maintenance. Their land forces are using older, out of date Soviet and Chinese military equipment which is also speculated to be largely suffering from lack of maintenance. What the DPRK does have in it's favor is a large population of civilians who've received military training who can be called into front-line service. One million soldiers stand at the ready for any military action. The DPRK has also built up a heavy air defense system using missiles and more advanced early warning detection. Flying into North Korean airspace would be challenging for US or UN flight crews.

Having said all of this, I did start researching the process of applying for a visa to North Korea a few years ago, just haven't followed through on actually doing it yet. I would still like to go and see this very unusual nation for myself.

Just a **** waving contest, with the US clearly displaying the bigger ****.

I don't expect anything more exciting to happen.

    LOL.
North Korea is an ant getting ready to get smashed.
They are no threat to us.
Hell North Korea doesn't even have a guidance system for their missiles so all that puffing the chest out saying we'll use Nukes and so forth is a whole load of bull **** because they don't have the range to hit America.
However North Korea could hit locally where they are nations like Japan, China, South Korea, Phillipines Islands, etc. could run the threat of being attacked by North Korea but the U.S is way out out of range.

While china is an "ally" it has started to come down a bit harder, they really don't want a nuke going off in their back yard

I've been living in S Korea for the past 2 years and honestly we hear this stuff all the time. It just happens to be big news in America this time. The north koreans are eventually going to get fed up and the regime will collapse. thats when things will really get interesting.

This. They have to know they will not survive if they attack and i doubt they will, it's all huff and no puff, but maybe that's what they want. If US decides there's too much risk and attacks that will bring Russia and China into the equation which will trigger a bigger issue then just Nth Korea.

    Least thats my take.

There's another alternative to the story and thats that the media is making it all up, but na they never do that, maybe like in Iraq the Nth Korean govt. isn't doing anything of the sort but the western media and such is making it seem like they are terrorists and have weapons of mass destruction that will never be found or a terrorist leader that was killed in secret and never proven to be dead or alive for that matter.

it was started over 60 years ago and now they feel the need to get revenge... they have a population half the size of england and the country is tiny, they have an enemy that is allied with the US in their country with roughly 30,000 us troops there already...

it's safe to say the odds aren't really in their favour to start a war, i doubt there would be a great deal left of the country in it's entirety by next week if they so much as launched a firework in the wrong direction

I think Iran is a much bigger threat here. Russia has claimed it would step in, if the US intervened. With Russia comes China. Even though we are the superior military power, I don't think anyone wants a war with the combined forces of China and Russia.

the problem with any war of that magnitude is that any sign of losing using conventional warfare could lead to a few buttons being pressed and worldwide destruction.

I wonder, if the South and USA did retaliate (if NK ever did strike the US/South Korea)... and North Korea gets bombed back into the stone age... then what happens to the country then? Do the North Koreans then head to South Korea? Or China? Who would rebuild the North? Would South Korea just take it over?

This seems to be a lot of saber rattling by the North Koreans. They tried this back in the 90's and the U.S. kowtowed and sent them money and food. I suspect this is more of the same.

    Communism sucks.

North Korea is just trying to get extra attention from the world community to look at them and see if they can get sanctions dropped against them.. nothing more.. They have no weapons that can reach the Mainland.. same with Iran, can't reach us..
I don't put much stock into our missile defense system but we would annihilate them if there was ever a serious threat... China backed or not, nobody is going to back a country using a nuclear weapon in today's day and age.. Goes for Iran and Russia too, if they pushed hard at actually launching against Israel, Russia would look the other way as Israel crushed them (as their military is actually pretty good).

Just felt the need to point out here it isn't nk vs USA. Sorry guy but it's the whole of UN and there's a lot sk ppl who would like to think they are also well trained - give them some credit.
Don't be so fast to say USA will win, they haven't won so far.
We don't see any real trouble over here and everything seems to be as normal.
And the US should stop giving enemies an education, starve them out - stop sending food.
China is the biggest problem, if they back nk it will be a huge war. The US has a lot of enemies and they could join teams.

Not that I want that we are over here and my guy is military. So fingers crossed it'll die down as it always does
