Hi all!

I'm going to be in Manhattan on Saturday, does anyone know if there is a gym that is pay-to-train? Boxing, kickboxing or just somewhere to hit some weights and a cross trainer?

Failing that I think I'll just have to do a couple of laps of Central Park and take my jump rope!

I fly back to the UK on Sunday, but fancy getting a decent cardio session in on the Saturday.

Cheers

Go to a crossfit box. A lot of them have a free class on saturday already so you'll get a pretty good cardio workout.

Any YMCA lets you pay for a day pass as well. You can always act like you wanna try it out though and get it for free.
  • cool thanks! I kinda thought my english accent might give me away when asking for a "free trial" - I've no objection to paying for a session but when I googled around everywhere seemed to be only interested in memberships. Even emailed a couple of muay thai places and got no response!

I'll pack my skipping rope and hope the hotel has a gym!

Do you think it would be cool to skip in central park - I know a lot of people jog there in the morning? Not been for a couple of years so am a bit out of touch!

It should be fine. You could find a spot out of the way I'm sure, especially during the weekday.

Almost everyone in NY has an accent. You'll fit right in.

Ask Coach Reddy, he's in NYC. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/CoachReddy
  • Woohoo ! Someone got back to me.

Credit were its due - Natalie Fuz of Chok Sabai Gym in Manhattan said she'll let me go to her class on Saturday for free - as she normally lets first timers at the class have a free session before signing up anyhow!

    faith in humanity restored.

You can check out Groupon now deals too. They usually have a bunch for gyms.
  • Just thought I'd close this post out with a pic of the gym.
