I have a question about that T.O.M. and working out. Specifically about doing weights... OK so more specifically... Barbell squats!!!

Do you avoid doing certain things during this time?

*it is so hard to explain what I mean without sounding so gross LOL*

But basically, what do you use? When I am light I use a pad, but when I went to the gym and did the squats, well (omg I am wetting myself laughing here) as I was coming back up, the pad was also... erm... riding... UP! Then I had vision of using a tampon, all that "pressure" of coming up, it... pops out?

Seriously, if you could see the fit of laughter I am in right now. I have wanted to ask this for ages, but was far to embarrassed, but I am at the gym tonight and my lady friend and come to visit, usually I have managed to time it so I am not so heavy.

Men, if you ignored the warning and read this anyway... I am SOOOOOO SORRY... but I did warn you :

I wonder if you need the pads with "wings" to keep them in place? I've never had the problem you described. Maybe focus on using your legs to push up from the squat? That's where the pressure should be... (*note* I am NOT a professional trainer--just my experience!)

Just had a look at some U.K. stockists and one place sell the cups and are called YUUKI... That has made my day, perfect name, yuuki (yucky) cup pmsl!!!!!!!
  • Since I started working out, when I am doing weighted squats, my flow actually lightens up dramatically and actually stops. I would just grab some ultra thin pads with wings and you should be fine.

I don't recommend taking any drugs...I mean maybe an aleve before if your flow doesn't lighten up while you exercise.

Never had issues with tampons when squatting.

So are you worried about a tampon falling out during weighted squats? That has never happened to me.

Truthfully I'd be more concerned about something slipping out during wide leg jumping squats..... If you jump really high and land flat flooted..... Or something like that.

Edit to fix a hilarious typo. Lol

    Thank you for the replies.

I am looking in to getting the Diva Cup, I have sort of heard about them before, but never looked in to getting on. I will now though!

    Try this:

    www.divacup.com

Takes a little getting used to, but once you do, you will never go back to other methods. No [leaks] and you only have to change once a day, in the privacy of your home. Change and clean in the shower works really well. It is the cleanest way to handle TOM.

Have never had a problem of anything 'dropping out' but unless you've had about 50 kids then there shouldn't really be any issue in that department, haha!

I actually had the mirena fitted so TOM isn't really an issue anymore for me

Never heard of that cup thing tho, gonna have to google it myself now

I have one and I love it. It takes a bit to get used to. Also have to make sure you have it in correctly so no leakage occurs but once you get the hang of it its great!

Got to say I think cups are great, I use the mooncup which is the UK brand. The best thing is you don't need to think about what you will need if you are not at home for a while, and I can't believe the mess I used to go through at night times before using it.

BUT I do not use it for exercise. It sometimes slips down- not very often and I can feel when it does- but if that happens it can leak. And if they leak, they really leak...If I was at home excercising, or going for a walk or something I wouldn't worry about it at all. But for heavy squats and so on I wouldn't feel confident enough with it.

Depo injection stops periods! I have had a chuckle at this thread mind. Fancy calling an item or a rather intimate nature a yukki cup. Tickled!!!

OP, wear a tampon and put a liner in there too, just in case. Honestly, try to not use your super-kegel ability to press that sucker out while squatting. Keep the mind focused on the quads and glutes, not the hooha. Squeeze the hooha upward if you are thinking about it. Pinching the cheeks actually helps isolate the glutes anyway, so you'll get a better workout on the push up from below parallel.

Yay for the Diva cup! I will never go back!

It can take a couple cycles to really get the hang of it but it is such an incredible little device. I don't know how I lived life without it!

They sell the Mooncup at boots. Not as good as the diva cup IMO but easier to get in the UK? Started with Diva from health store in Canada. Have been using them for years, saving me money all the while. Good for swimming or if you have sensitive skin. Easier and more sanitary once you get the hang of it. If its in place properly you can't feel it and doesnt leak if (TMI) emptied when required.Haven't tried it since having a baby a few months ago though. Might not be good for squats though as it is kept in place by pelvic muscles, which would change during squat.
