i like tattoos but im very picky with them. i had my first when i was 16 (done by a friend of a friend who was a professional but obviously i didnt have my parents permission) it was my old nickname.. it was about 4 inches long and 1 inch wide.... very low above my private part.....

obviously i loved it!

then one day i had an emotional time in my life and i was feeling like a rebel so i decided to add a huge spiral and 4 diamonds around it... (god was that a bad idea ) i mean it didnt look that bad and far away you could barely see it...

obviously i regretted it because i no longer carry that nickname sooooo i decided to go get a cover-up of a flower piece... (OMG A BIGGG FLOWER PIECE!!) and you can STILL see my nickname under the 2 flowers.... omg... i am having regrets.. i kind of feel sick to my stomach.. i have 6 flowers on my lower stomach and its not done yet... i have my HOPEFULLY last session tomorrow... (i cant post pics until its done) but i HATE how u can see my nickname still and i hate how dark the flowers are... pretty much i dont like how huge this tattoo is.... and its not exactly what i had in mind...

have you ever felt regret with a tattoo? what have you done to make yourself feel better about it..?? im sad because this is my cover-up meaning i cant get a cover-up again... so i have to live with it... help.. maybe ill post a picture if i get the courage.... idk...

Hmmmm... I never had tattoos and I'm not really a fan of them, but I'm sure it will turn out cute!

I've had random bouts of regrets about my tattoo, not what I got, but where I got it. I had it on the inside of my wrist, and I wish I hadn't put it somewhere so noticeable. When I got it I was young, and figured I could wear bracelets to cover it up... nevermind I hate jewelry. lol

However, I don't worry about it too much. What's done is done, and I've seen much worse tattoos. Was there no way to cover the nickname? I thought the point of a cover up tattoo was to .. cover it up. :(

At least you didn't get this tattoo.....

  • I dont regret any of mine but I do regret the color choice on one and then the guy didnt do that great of a job on top of that. They good thing is that it still has great meaning to me regardless so I dont get upset about it.

I hope you like it more once the guy is all the way done. Perhaps you wont see the name once he is done! :)

I just had one covered-up. My ex-wife and I thought we were being clever by not getting each other's names, still a hug mistake. I can still see parts of it but it is because I know what was there before. But family members have seen it and can't see the old one at all. It could just be your perception of it. Also, I wouldn't worry until you are finished with all of your sessions. Your artist may not be done throwing opposing colors or white in there to help cover up the rest.

It's not finished yet. Tell your tattooist that you're worried - they may be able to reassure you or even do the last bit slightly differently.

Yes, I have had some tattoo regrets. My first two are small and sort of in a style that is a blend of henna and tribal type look, which is so not my style anymore (these were done 10 and 13 years ago now). Sometimes I think about covering them up, but in a way they are part of who I am. I don't hate them, and they remind me where I was at that point of my life and what they meant to me at the time.

My third one is rather large, and the guy who first did it did a terrible job. It looked like a kid drew on me with crayons! I went somewhere else and he managed to make the flowers look really nice, but the layout is not how i wanted it at all, so that will always bother me a little, but I think I've made peace with it.

These regrest have kept me from getting any more even though I really love tattoos. the two i'd want - one is a very visible location (forearm) which I'd be looking at all the time, and one would be really large and I'm so paranoid about not liking how they turn out that i haven't gotten another tatoo for 7 years!

I have one that I got last year on a whim as my husband guilted me into it.
Let's just say I hate it and now he's paying for me to get it covered up.
I have many tattoos which I love except for this one....never ever ever tattoo anyones name on you (unless it's family)
    It's nothing but a CURSE!

I have several tattoos and 1 that I plan to get covered. Every time you get a cover up it will be bigger than the original. If you do not like the tattoo go get a second opinion from someone more experienced in cover up tattoos. Do this before the tattoo is finished. Once its finished it might be harder to cover up again and you might have to live with it. Even if you don't do that at least talk to the artist about what you do not like.

The one messed up tattoo I have looks like this also and it was flowers. I watched this man tattoo people I knew on two separate occasions and the tattoos were beautiful. He screwed mine up :-( I'm still deciding what kind of cover up I'll be happy with.

I love tattoos, and I don't regret any of mine....but, I can understand why you may regret yours. I'd honestly have to see a picture of it to give an honest opinion, but for now just embrace it and know that you had a reason to get it when you did.

And, like some others have said, it may just be your perception because you know exactly where the old one is.

I had one done when I was 18, and later regretted it. I went for a few laser removal sessions, it lightened, then had it covered up. Unless you know that I had another tattoo, you can't tell. There's one area of slight discoloration, but if I went with a darker color I'm sure nothing would be visible. My tattoo is orange, red, green, blue, and gray... old tattoo was black.

Maybe it's just your artist? My SIL had one covered up without laser and you don't see anything.

If the name is still visible they can go back over it and try to darken it a little more to hide it, but that really sucks. Maybe it's not as bad as you think it is? Hopefully once it's done and you get used to it you'll love it. :) Like another person has said it would be easier to give advice if you posted pictures, but if you really don't like it then you're not obligated to go back to this artist. Might be worth it to check out a different, competent artist and get their opinion?

I regret one tattoo - I didn't check the guys portfolio, just walked in off of the street and had him tattoo a design I had been carrying around for a year or so (I was 18 and stupid, assuming all tattoo artists did amazing work :/). People can't tell by looking at it because it was an abstract design but it's completely and totally ****ed up. Additionally the ink is patchy and the lines are all over the place, just absolutely terrible. :/ I don't really notice it anymore but it's hard to hide and I get so embarrassed when people catch a glimpse of it and ask to see the whole thing.

My only other regret is that I wish I had gotten one tattoo - the words 'free my soul' in my grandpa's handwriting - a lot bigger. It's about an inch tall on my shoulder and I wish I had gone closer to 2.5" or so.

You can still see the original, covering black is hard. They should have used the purple and blue on the middle flowers and the lighter color on the outer ones. However, you look fabulous and honestly, if someone is that low on your belly and looking, I don't think it's going to be your tattoo they're looking at.

That's a pretty good job he's doing there, IMO. I only knew to look there because you said that's where they were.

Talk to him. Maybe a slight change to the shading might make it less obvious to you.

But no, nobody else is going to notice them. I promise. Unless they're so close to you, they're more interested in - other - activities than tattoo critique.

I agree with RainHoward. The old tattoo is a little visible but most people will only glance at it and miss it because its so low.

I think its cute and girly. Yes it could have been better but I have seen much much worse cover ups. Don't add anything to it. Ask the artist if there is any way to blend the old tattoo into the new one a little better. It does look good so far. I like the flowers.

It's a bunch of flowers. Seems girly enough to me, especially with the piercings too.

Me, I'd need a tropical rainforest of plants to cover my belly. You look great.

Stop. The tattoo that is. Don't go any further with it until you decide what it is YOU want to do. Short of laser removal that puppy's there for life. You're young. Make sure you are going to like what it looks like. I would suggest talking to some other artists and get some other opinions of what to do with it. Have them draw up something and see how you like it.

It doesn't matter what I think, or what your friends think or what anyone else on the web thinks, the only thing that matters is what you think and if you aren't liking it now, you probably aren't going to like it later.

I do think that a good artist could change the shading of the center flowers and cover the original better.

I had my first tattoo when I was 38 years old. I was 18 when I first married right out of high school, had 3 kids by the time I was 22, then had a husband that ran out on me. Since I felt that most of my life was spent just raising my kids, once they moved out, I kind of went crazy, and got my first tattoo. A friend was breaking into the business, and was very good at it and my first one, just a small flower and stem on my upper outside thigh, I am still pleased with. Later, he had just got new double needles so decided I wanted a blue rose on my shoulder. BIG MISTAKE! It wound up looking like a big black blob and is still there almost 20 years later. Those double needles made a much larger mark, and the blue was so dark, it was as dark as the outline of the rose. I have been thinking of trying to have mine covered also, but not sure if I would like the result, same as you. Sure hope it turns out ok for you in the end. BTW, I just turned 58. LOL

You see the old one because you are looking for it. It is a good job so far, with leaves and the extra colour, you eye will be drawn away from it even more. I agree with the advise telling you to talk to the artist. Explain your fears. However remember you are looking for it, other's don't know it's there.

I have mother / daughter tattoo on my left foot that matches my daughters. Two artists from the same studio did them. Hers did an amazing job thank goodness. The artist that did mine was fired. He slipped. He slipped with a 3 inch line above my tattoo. The owner spent 3 hours recolouring / shading the tattoo to cover the mistake and it's gorgeous. My only regret is mine is now full colour and my daughter's partial so although the same, very different.

I love body art and I think your's will be very striking when completed.:flowerforyou:
