I'm new to MFP and am looking to gain muscle mass. Anyone with any advice would be great!

    Quick answer:

    1. Lift 3-4 days a week, especially the compound exercises

    2. Get anywhere from 1.2-2.0g of high-quality protein per kg (kilogram) of body-weight a day (there's different formulas and opinions for this, I get mine from the Journal of the Intl. Society of Sports Nutrition: http://www.jissn.com/content/9/1/54 ) along with around 40-45% of your calories from carbohydrate and the rest from healthy fats. (Unless you've a medical reason for choosing another macronutrient profile)

    3. Eat a caloric excess (400kcal a day extra, give or take)

    4. Don't engage in "chronic cardio" (short cardio sessions and HIIT are OK)

    5. Get plenty of rest.
