Do you watch your sugar intake?

If so, how do you stay under your sugar grams per day? According to MFP, I'm allowed 25g/day. I eat a couple pieces of fruit and bam, I'm there. If I add a sweet potato for the day, even with exercise, I'm over the daily allowance. I don't eat grains, so the sugars aren't coming from there. So what do you do to stay under the daily allowance?

The 25 gram guideline is referring to added and hidden sugars such as what is found in baked goods, processed foods, etc. The MFP program cannot differentiate between empty sugar calories and those that come from healthy sources so it will show your total sugars from all sources.
The following link might help explain it better:

If most of your sugars are coming from nutritious sources, such as the sugars that naturally occur in fruits and vegetables, don't worry about it. The sugar is already accounted for in your carbohydrate totals anyway.0 -
Many people are diabetic or insulin resistant so need to watch there sugar intake. I'm one of those. There are fruits that have less sugar than others ....berries- strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. You can manage your sugar intake by reducing the serving size of the other fruits and root vegetables like sweet potatoes,0

I do watch my sugar because of hormone issues and being Hypoglycemic...if it is from fresh fruit, I dont pay much attention to it. But, if it is from other sources, that is when I worry/watch.0

I watch the sugars, but can never stay under either. I am finding that if I don't eat processed sugar, if all the sugar I eat comes from fruit or the 1 teaspoon of brown sugar I put on my oatmeal, then I am doing well and I tend to lose.0

Thanks everyone! It was suggested that I only eat fruit in the mornings, and only low-sugar fruits. I guess we'll see if that makes a difference! As for sweet potatoes, since I don't eat grains, they keep me full. I'm not giving those up!0

I don't pay attention to the sugar amounts in my diary.. but I don't have a medical reason to do so. I would watch the amount you consume if you have a medical issue that requires you to (diabetics, insulin resistance, etc).
I consume A LOT of fruit and tend to go well above my sugar amount by the middle of breakfast some days.
Although your body processes refined and natural sugars the same, I personally only pay attention to refined and added sugars.0 -
I stopped caring about that a while back. I try to limit myself to two daily servings of "junk" processed sugar stuffs, and don't limit my natural sugars (bananas, grapefruits, etc).0
