Does anyone know the calorific content of a sea caught mackerel fillet about 4oz in weight, can find lots saying tesco smoked and sainsbury peppered but none actually caught from the sea. I went fishing this morning with hubby and son and was lucky enough to catch one , would love to eat it for my tea but want to make sure its not too high in calories.

and a bunch of others that were all pretty much the same.

Hi there, lucky you, there's nothing like fresh caught mackerel. I have a book that says 62 calories per ounce raw, 78 cals per oz fried, so if you grill it I suppose it would be somewhere in between. Either way 4 oz would be fine I'm sure. Hope that helps you

I've been looking for mackerel to buy, it is so good! Did you know that Japanese people eat mackerel for breakfast? They do, it is smoked and actually not bad for breakfast if you get used to it!!!0
